Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

While we’re waiting to know the order of the final two how about the songs they might write if they were somehow to form a super group…

I want to hold your hand in glove
Please please me let me get what I want….

thankfully I can’t think of anymore

Yeh, my top 15 was entirely white, despite my being a big fan of a whole host of ’black‘ music genres - Motown, 60’s soul, Northern Soul, Ska, Reggae, Disco. Part of that discrepancy is born of the impression (right or wrong) that much of Motown and Northern Soul was singles orientated. I’ve got odd studio albums by Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and one or two others, but they’re few and far between compared to the many compilations I’ve got from those genres, and to the multiple album recordings of The Beatles, The Stones, Elvis Costello, Bowie, The Jam, Lucinda Williams, Nicole Atkins, Dylan and even artists like The Smiths, Teenage Fanclub and Abba.
Mine too. :( The only "black" band that was near (quite near though) my cut was Public Enemy.

In fact my list is pretty scarily white. I've been listening to a lot of MIA though (Kala was the record I listened to most in 2021 according to my Spotify). She's Tamil of course.

Teenage Fanclub are so adored by so many people I know. And I keep saying, "OK cool, then you should look at the label that picked them up in America -- Merge Records." They also have Arcade Fire among a number of popular artists. Merge was founded by the gang in the #3 band on my list -- Superchunk.

For my own sanity, I've just checked the final scores for The Smiths and The Beatles a 3rd time, and I am now confident that Excel has got things right (just heading off any demands for a recount tomorrow morning - the recount has been done - TWICE!).

It's that close. The lead changed hands multiple times on the last three days of voting.
I only used 14 of my fake accounts. Is it too late to send in votes from the other 4 I didn't use?

This is the first song I heard of theirs. 1978. In Missouri, USA, jukebox blaring in a small, hot diner, 16 years old, accompanied by my family - my father glaring bullets at the young adults who selected this song.

I’m so out of touch it isn’t true. Apart from Nicole Atkins, who I discovered about 10 years ago one night on Jools Holland and who I’ve championed ever since (she remains a ‘C’ lister in the States, never mind the UK, despite my unpaid promotional efforts!), I don’t think I’ve actively pursued any new acts in earnest for 10 to 15 years or more. The alt.country boom of the late ‘90’s/early ‘00’s was probably the last time I found myself interested in multiple new artists. Saw a few of them in London at that time (Allison Moorer, Lambchop, Steve Earle, Howe Gelb).
MIA I only know cos of Slumdog, and Superchunk I’ve never heard of. Just had a listen on YouTube though. Very good, but I think I’d enjoy them live more than on record.
Teenage Fanclub I’ve seen a whole bunch of times down the years. I like the Byrds and Big Star so they were a knocking bet from the off. Always great live. Not seen them since Gerald Love left though
