Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

I would say their first LP still had a twinge of grunge about it still as did enough space, but the Foos evolved away from that as time went on, and as you have just posted have come full circle to rock/pop elite and mainstream friendly.

My initial laughable comment was more that personally I think nirvarna, if the events hadn't happened would have fizzled out rather than evolve as with most of those bands and nevermind would not be seen as this seminal moment, but a footnote in a musical decade and just another personal classic album to people

I may be wrong but I just didn't and still don't like it or most of what those bands produced, wasn't my thing

I do think nirvana have been put in the "cannot criticise" or you are deemed a wrong un if you say you don't like them bracket that people like to put the the beatles, zeplin, bowie etc in.

Anyway not the first time my vie on here has been roundly dismissed, many years ago in a movie discussion thread I said the breakfast club was wank and got leathered for it ;-)
You're probably right that Nirvana has entered a pantheon that puts them beyond criticism. I think they represented an attitude and a look and a personality that represented a group of potential music consumers that hadn't really been considered before. They made "alt" mainstream. But the Pixies who you like (as do I) allowed Nirvana to happen. So did Husker Du, who I like even more. The great thing about Nirvana is what they laid to waste.

The Breakfast Club and every single John Hughes film save the first half of Ferris Beuller are utter, complete and total wank. Has no one figured out that Ferris is spoiled rotten asshole, and not a hero? The most overrated film director in history, period, at least in America, and it's not even close. I detest his films. His themes aren't universal, they're generic; his plots aren't surprising, nor touching, nor complex, nor realistic; and mostly I simply don't find his scripts funny -- he was also god awful as a writer, except for parts of the original Vacation and bits of Home Alone which are both throwaways anyhow.

The only band I like in there is The Small Faces, Steve Marriot was such a great singer, very soulful.
I think they're best song was Tin Soldier.
I never liked the American Fleetwood Mac, but the earlier Peter Green version was one of my top 10 bands. I didnt vote for them though as I cant stand Stevie Nicks.

The Green era Fleetwood Mac was the peak of the British blues boom of the 60s, Their run of singles in 68-69 was brilliant and the CBS Greatest Hits collection from that band is essential.

Come on, admit it. That initial gratitude that your favourites weren’t in the lower reaches of the Top 100 is slowly being replaced by the fear that they’ll miss out entirely, isn’t it?

This latest list goes all the way up to 11.

Two Manc bands for you today: Happy Mondays and Doves plus some other highly thought-of bands from elsewhere in the UK: Elton John, The Specials and Depeche Mode.

Forum favourites, Talking Heads make #40, and surely there isn’t person on the planet who will be able to resist moving their feet when Steve Wonder’s “Superstition” starts up. Well, maybe Man United’s midfield, they struggle to move their feet for anything these days.

Woo hoo 4 in that list, I may actually not be tone deaf atfer all.

Having seen 3 of my 4 live (doves, mondays, the specials) and david byne solo, all again were memeorable.

Met Jimmy Goodwin during his solo stint after he played a gig and I spent a very good night chatting with him in the salisbury, such a shme at present Doves are having bad times in my top 3 when it comes Manc bands.

The specials I was too young to see originally but had their 7"s, eventually saw them at the Apollo a few years back and they were brilliant.

Four, possibly five of those could have made my favourites.

And yes, I am now beginning to worry that The Pixies won’t make the top 100.

They'll need to be a steward's enquiry that they didn't finish within the Top 1........
