A bit of a myth about prog. Only aware of a handful of songs if that about dragons etc...most songs are about repressed sexual teenage urges from my reckoning...

I did read somewhere the average age a prog rock fan lost their virginity was 43. It has recently come down thanks to the internet allowing like minded wizards and the like to find suitable suitors. Who knew Warcraft could act like a modern day Cupid.

Ha ha what total nonsense. Mozart and Shakespeare have lasted for centuries because they operated centuries ago ffs ! Let's come back in three hundred years time and see shall we !? Is Mozart the only classical musical genius that people remember ? Is he balls, there's also Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky and several others. It won't just be the Beatles. As things stand in the 21st century the Dan are massively respected and critically and culturally acclaimed by their peers and the music industry as a whole across a massive range of genres too including soul, funk, jazz, rock and pop, ranging from the likes of Kanye West and De La Soul to David Crosby, Burt Bacharach and many rock and pop stars, which is not a bad start.

I'm 46 and never heard of steely dan, although I've heard of all them composers and the majority of the acts listed. So either I'm a musical idiot or they are already not surviving the test of time?

They're not massive and we're insignificant musically and culturally after about 79.

Ha ha that's the standard response I get from people who do not get the Dan. A bit like that Shakespeare, or Mozart or City under Pep, Steely Dan a bit too clever for their own good. Who do they think they are with their peerless musicianship, songwriting and lyrics !! Each to their own of course, but I do take offence at them being compared to Supertramp FFS Ha ha !!

Fully understand your view, but musicianship is low on my list of why I love certain bands. It's a feel from an artist that just gets you. 'The Dan' just don't do it for me.

I only discovered them a year ago from one of bluehammers threads. It is the best thing about these kind of threads - discovery
