Borussia Dortmund (H) Post-Match Thread

I thought that whole side was let down or difficult because of the Stones and Mahrez combo. But Mahrez was sluggish sometimes, not really full of spark when we really needed it. But yes he didnt have Walker running outside of him.
It was exactly the same against Villa in the last game of last season.

Stones does a job at right back, but the attacking side of his full back role is slow and unnatural. That in turn makes Mahrez ineffectual and therefore the opposition defence doesn’t have to track as far and so can stay compact, closing the half spaces and stopping our attacks more easily.

If we’d have had Cancelo and Gomez as full backs, we’d probably been about 4 up and not needed a worldie from Stones.

Ah well, late comeback wins are superb though.

Ederson, 6 - had to make that one save in the first half, couldn't do much with the goal

Stones, 6 - no idea how to properly grade what was a shite performance that contained a world class goal
Akanji, 7 - looks solid
Ake, 7 - won some good headers and is getting better at moving the ball
Cancelo, 6 - was absolute dogshit and then produced the best pass of the night

Rodri, 6 - didn't really look his usual self but played well enough
De Bruyne, 5 - kept trying but absolutely nothing was coming off
Gundogan, 6 - not really his fault but think his minor weaknesses do get exposed sometimes

Mahrez, 4 - hasn't got going this season at all
Haaland, 8 - got the winner and actually became more involved in our build-up than I expected
Grealish, 5 - started off well but faded out as the rest of the team slowed down

You don't give in. "Fight to the end", wasn't that the motto a few years back?

Nobody said we were finished and doomed to going out in the group stage.

They were pissed off that we looked shit, and conceded a goal that surprised absolutely nobody.

I get the idea of having faith, but if the team is playing like shit, nobody in the stadium or at home is sat with a smile acting like a win is a guarantee. Also doesn't mean we've given up on the game either.

Awful starting line up, lifeless and boring.

Thankfully we have a bench full of players who can make a difference. Bernie was everywhere when he came on, never stops running, never gives up. Foden was brilliant too.

Onwards blues…oh and pep, stop fucking about with the line up !

Proud of the fans for representing us all so well tonight with the impeccable minutes silence.
The triple substitution improved us massively, Alvarez is going to be a superstar.
Haaland is going to be the best in the world & will break all the records.
Really enjoyed Phillips strong challenge in the last few minutes.
Onto Saturday
