Borussia Dortmund Vs City (CL) Post Match Thread

Was there tonight. Great stadium and decent atmosphere. The problem is clear from my point of view. No pace, no incision, work rate seems poor and no understanding. At times we were ok tonight but barely made an impact where it mattered.

As for balotelli. I have always been the first to stand up for him and I have always had a soft spot for him but he needs to go. Made no effort when he came on and stormed straight down the tunnel at the final whistle.

Big shout to Joleon and joe for coming over at the end and throwing their shirts in to the crowd.
and vincent clapping. Great lads. Balotelli and dzeko need some sorting out.

-- Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:10 am --

I think he's saying some people should stop acting like a bunch of old women and show some self respect.

thanks mate.

You tell it as it is. I'm afraid a lot of our fans have changed since we started to win things. Support is fragile - it used to be so strong. Some fans have become very impatient despite winning the most important cup there is - the Premiership. I dont think any English team would have qualified from this group....

agreed. i Was so proud of our fan group. we were renown. but lately these booings have not been doing us any good. But ey, still people like us around. =)

OK, it was poor but we got knocked out of the group stages before this game and although Mancini would have us all think he wanted the Europa League, did he really?

I can't understand all this nonsense about Mancini, people need to chill out a bit. We had a tough group with Dortmund and Madrid in it along with Ajax. It took Chelsea, United and Arsenal years to get used to the style of play in the Champions League.

We've had a bad experience in the competition nobody can deny that but we're 2nd in the Premier League.

If we don't go on and retain the title now we're out of Europe then the summer is the time to judge Mancini (from the owner's point of view anyhow) not tonight, not Sunday.

To be honest, before the game, I would have been happy to go in the Europa but at the same time, I'm now also glad we're out of it.

I'm also glad to come away from the TV after hearing Gullit, Hoddle and Hamann spouting so much carp. Not one positive word was said and typifies the jealousy surrounding us.

So to sum up whatever the outcome you would be happy! We've been humiliated in Europe over the past 3 months and so called "fans" like you come out with this nonsense.
I'm seriously embarrassed with our new fan base.

As I stated, I would have been happy with the Europa League yes, but the point I was making, going out of it also gives us a great shot at the title again so maybe it's also not a bad thing afterall. I think most fans or "fans" as you call them would think this way before the game.

I was easy either way to be honest, had far worse disappointments than this over the years and spent a lot of money watching dross to over-react.

We have to remember how far we have come in a short space of time.

I used to sing "we never win at home and we never win away" when it really meant something so can't understand your point about being embarrassed about our new fan base?

Fair play.

My point on the new fan base is due to the arrival of photographing day trippers, men of my age who's last trip to Maine Road was 1981, who turn up for the "big games" but whos seats are empty on the lesser games... We all know who they are

City fans: Usually I just read the forum (I always reckon reading forums is the best way to understand what's really happening at a club) - but just wanted to post to ask something:

I understand the 'group of death' argument - horrendous group for you guys - but I'm really surprised that there is so little anger. You didn't win a single game. That seems a really damning statistic to me. To an extent, does that stat not mean the group of death thing is a bit irrelevant? On that form, even if you had United's group the first decent team would have knocked you out? It seems to me to be a lot more than just bad luck with the group - your excellent squad of players was outplayed in most of the games. Really confusing to watch and, given his record in Europe, I'm just surprised Mancini isn't getting more criticism.

Comfortably beaten tonight, really haven't had a game in this group where we've been the better team for long spells.

Something fundamentally wrong with what Mancini is trying to do in Europe and if we fall 6 points behind on Sunday the pressure will really begin to tell, I don't see him being backed in January and think he may be gone in the summer regardless of league performance, he'll really have to win the league and the FA Cup well and show a clear plan with reasonable transfer targets to prove he knows how to deal with Europe.

-- Tue Dec 04, 2012 11:19 pm --

United will be knocked out by the first decent team they face, Chelsea are on the verge of being and Arsenal will as well.

I worked Balotelli out on day one at Molyneux ..... and i've seen little to alter my opinion of him since,

He's a 'bit player' ..... can be alright on the odd occasion , bit most of the time he's not a BIT of use !
All in all he was great in the derby last year and scores the odd penalty. He was fucking shite when he came on today. He is a hindrance. The reason we won the league last year was because he was suspended. Just fuck off.

He's had enough chances,im not going to start slagging him off,but if true that psg were sniffing around last summer, then lets hope to fcuk they come back this summer..sorry make it january..

Well done Dortmund

A far better team than us at the moment and i hope they go on to win it.

Borussia

He almost scored - that was not offside

He was fouled and I can understand why he blew his top as he wasnt getting any decisions.

You know why the Dortmund fans don't like him - he singlehandedly knocked Germany out of the Euros with one of the best striking displays I have ever seen.

I hope he plays regularly from now until the end of the season. I have more faith in him at the moment than Aguero who is way off form

the worst thing is with balo, as much of a petulant **** that he is, id still prefer him over dzeko.

Agree. Dzeko has proven completely ineffective as a starter. With Mario he might be rubbish too or he might do something special (seems to be happening less nowadays though), you just don't know which is better than knowing you'll get nothing. Personally I'm tired of their inconsistency, you expect better from such expensive players on big wages. In and out of form all the time, both of them, no striker avoids losses of form (except Messi maybe) but the top category offer a certain level of consistency which these two don't. Aguero and Tevez are our best attacking duo and I'd start them in the derby, but if Mancini opts for a big striker then it'd be Mario.
