Much needed co-efficency points, plenty more experience (as a team) in Europe and a European trophy to boot.
you should tell mancini then because he has said if we qualify for europa he will be fielding a reserve side
Roberto Mancini will not field his first team players in the Europa League, should Manchester City qualify for the tournament later on this evening.
The Premier League champions’ hopes of reaching the knock out stages of the Champions league for the first time were ended when they failed to beat Real Madrid at the Etihad a fortnight ago. City are still rock bottom of their group, but if they manage to beat Borussia Dortmund and Ajax fail to beat Real Madrid, Mancini’s side can gain entry into Europe’s second competition.
But Mancini has confirmed that he will field a weakened side in Europa League games, should they qualify for it, a necessary step according to the Italian due to such games taking place on a Thursday evening.
"If we go in the Europa League, we will play different teams,” Mancini said, Sky Sports report. “When you play in the Champions League on a Tuesday or Wednesday you can use the same team on a Saturday or Sunday in the Premier League," he said.
"But with the Europa League this is impossible. If you don't get any help from the FA, then this is the problem with the Europa League. We want to play in it, we want to try and win it, but if we do stay in it, we will play two different teams, one Thursday and one Sunday."
Mancini faced a similar dilemma last season, where the manager chose to opt for a strong XI in Europa League outings. However City still failed to progress through the tournament, eventually being knocked out by Sporting Lisbon in a last-16 tie.
