Brahim Diaz - 2018/19 Performances

Foden comes across as a more mature player knows when to make a run and when to pass or not.

Brahim gets so few first-team opportunities - even fewer than Phil - that I think he tries too hard to impress and as a result he's tended to hold on to the ball for too long. I hope he starts tonight so he can relax a bit knowing that he's got more time to play his natural game, he's a superb passer of the ball especially when he plays as a 10.

City fans have only seen him play first team games as a winger (which he’s not); so in addition to barely getting any playing time he’s out of position when he does, no wonder he doesn’t look as comfortable as Foden yet.

If he leaves I think City will live to regret it. How much would it take to buy Sancho from Dortmund even now? 40 million? Diaz is going to be even better in my humble opinion. As mentioned above re: his passing, it was very crisp and accurate in the Oxford game.

Yeah that’s a fair point but Diaz knows that pep likes us to pass it especially around the box and think doing that would impress Pep more.

I’ll be disappointed to see him leave, but I don’t know if we will regret it. Sancho is tearing it up in Germany, but City don’t really miss him. He still wouldn’t be getting a look in here if we kept him, because we can afford to spend millions on a ready made star, like we did with Mahrez. I would’ve loved to seen Sancho, Diaz and Foden all become starters in this City team. But I don’t think that would be feasible considering the level we are currently playing at.

Of course, City don't miss him currently but this could still have an impact further down the line. Presently, money isnt a great worry for City but it isnt a bottomless pit and there are still limits to how much can be spent. It's not inconceivable that Sancho and Diaz could command 150 million in combined transfer fees within the next three or four years. Yet City could be losing both for 8 million?

There is also a homegrown factor; I dont think City want to constantly be paying premiums for the very best homegrown players that are readymade starters as a long term strategy. But that is what could happen if even the very cream of City's youth don't see a future at the club. Foden as a City fan is a one-off as far as I'm concerned.
Sterling is yet to sign a new deal and it's still possible he could leave, there's a homegrown spot lost that Sancho could have filled. I'm not saying flood the team with youth, but the really top ones we're talking about here could be given more of a chance without jeopardising the team performance, I'm sure of that.

The problem is not with City, it's with the players themselves. Look at Sancho, he goes to Dortmund, a very good team, and he is able to play on an almost weekly basis. We simply cannot promise him that here, and if we did it would almost certainly cost us the league, let alone doing that with 3 or 4 academy products at the same time. We are arguably the best team in the world. When you are in this position, especially playing in the EPL, losing a single game can throw our entire season out of whack.

If I were Sancho I would have done the same thing, and if I were Diaz at this point in time I would be looking at Sancho and wondering if it made sense for me to do the same. Do I stay at City and play a handful of games for the next 3-4 years, hoping I break into the first team? Or do I leave now and play 30-40 game seasons elsewhere? I am sure these kids have the drive to compete with the stars here for their spot, but at what point does it become too much?

All that said, we should be giving them a big chunk of the league cup games. If he's healthy and is not played today, we've essentially made his mind up IMO.

If we want to look towards the Madrid model of breaking players into our first team our real mistake was not selling him to someone like Real Betis, or Leverkusen if you want to use the Carvajal example, last year while we still had some leverage and still could've secured a buyback clause. It was just as clear then as is it now that he wasn't going to get significant minutes without an injury crisis, which if you recall is how Sancho broke into Dortmund (and how most young players break through at big clubs for that matter).

I'm not sure how he plans to get minutes at Madrid between himself, their current options (including Vinicius who just got there), Rodrygo coming in, and whichever attacker they spend 100m next summer on, but best of luck to him.

Can't really blame him.

The league was already won with games left and he didn't start any of the remaining 5 ! it just show you how much faith does the manager have in him.

I know breaking records and achieving 100 points were important, but keeping your best talents is important also.

Starting one of Diaz/Foden will not weaken the team.

Comparing Sancho with Diaz is wrong Sancho is a left winger with only one player in front of him Sane, yes there are a lot of others that can play there, but only one in the way.
Diaz is a central attaching midfielder with loads of players in his position he has played as a right winger so we have not seen the best of him, and for me the only difference between him and Bernardo is experience . no team can keep all there best players when they come through together, Diaz chose not to go on loan a very deliberate attempt to cram in as much of Pep as he could and just maybe get a spot, it is not going to happen but when he leaves i believe he will acknowledge his time with Pep on his way to the top

David
Kevin
Bernardo
Phil
Gundogan

All playing for two or at the most three places in the team. Brahim is currently sixth in line. If he was patient, in a couple of seasons time he might make top 4. I’m just not sure how to make that work. It would have been slightly easier if he was a winger. Then he would only have Raz, Leroy and Mahrez in front of him. Pep trains him and sees him every day and he gets the playing time he gets. I don’t know what length contract he was on but maybe with these really promising kids we should be tying them down until they are early 20’s.
