Brentford (H) - PL | Post Match Thread

I thought it was a foul and a yellow. It wasn't far off a scissor tackle and no way was he in control of his body. Some of our yellows are farcical but not that one.
Yep, yellow all day long.

And Savinho needs to not dive at all, or dive a lot better. Can't argue with that yellow, either.

Players vote for the captain and the leadership team of which there are 5 in total. In today's football the fans seem to see the captain different to how the professions see it
Not every team has this 5 captains system.
I don't think its a good system at all.

But why have a captain when he might not play too many games
The game is only 90 minutes once or twice a week, they spend more time than that at the CFA every day. He might be the best person and influence around the squad, day-to-day.

Yep, that’s where captaincy is done in football. Talking to players, ensuring they understand what is required not just on the field but off it. Encouraging youngsters, integrating new comers. If the players want to say something to the manager, they go through the captain.

Disastrous start from City and we were lucky the game wasn't beyond us in the first ten minutes. Brentford were positive and determined to play attacking football and moved the ball quickly. That we were in the lead by half time was due entirely to Erling, and a real Eddie assist, but, as a team, we certainly didn't deserve it and it was very hard on Brentford. The second half was different again, though Brentford always carried a threat on the counter, but City were much more like themselves and we probably deserved the win.

Job done, but slightly concerning how we repeatedly start games half baked. Aside from Ipswich and Brentford we also gifted West Ham a first minute opportunity which thankfully they didn't take.

Inter will be far more clinical so hopefully we'll be more focused

You may be right but I can't get my head around 5 captains.

Don't agree that 2-1 at half-time was hard on Brentford. They were absolutely better in the first 10-15 mins - they were fast, brave, had Stones, Kovacic, Gundogan, and Walker properly rattled, but then we got a grip of ourselves they immediately stopped putting combinations together in our half. Watch the game back if you can, Brentford just stop completing passes over the halfway line just around the time Haaland scores and they never really get back into the game after that. And even then, their big chances aside from the goal came from set-pieces. Then their man-to-man marking system then gets badly exposed by Ederson's long kick to Haaland and the game was gone in that moment. We should have racked up a cricket score in the second half with the chances we had, their keeper just had a brilliant game to keep them in it. 3-1 would have been a much fairer scoreline by the end.

A few senior players are coming back from injury and look well rusty.
Even Kev, is only just getting back to his high standards but unfortunately has lost a yard of pace, understandably. But his vision and precision is sometimes wasted on players that are flat footed and not on the same page it seems.
But, it will come and we will be seriously scarey when it all comes together.
Rusty, yes, but I think so far the team have been admirable in the way they overcome adversity, while bedding in new young exciting players at the same time.

4 wins from 4, I’ll take and leave it to Pep to iron out the creases. He seems to have a fair grasp on the game. He almost looks like he knows what he’s at, at times.
