Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

Probably asking a bit much, but there's no need for an overreaction.

We were poor but it wasn't a disgrace, or a disaster. Just a bad game, and we haven't had a year yet in our history without a bad game.

Been a great start to the season, and we're in a great position to make a challenge for the title.

Myabe so,but there were also plenty of opportunities to change it and fuck all were taken....that is why plenty are angry and frustrated.

Erling was right fucked off today, you could see his body language throughout that game

Noticed that. He spent most of the game looking pissed off. Must be annoying in games like that having no proper service aside from aimless crosses.

To be fair to him, though, he spent a lot of the last few minutes legging it about and was on our 6 yard box for their second.

It's.not an overreaction, that is their first away victory of the season, and we haven't really had a great start to the season, we have played Newcastle who may get in the top 4 and got battered for 60 minutes, we played the dippers and lost, we have yet to play spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea in the league, Arsenal have played them all bar us

Credit to Brentford. Although I didn’t think they were that great, they caused us a few issues at times.

Our lot should hang their heads in shame. One of the most unprofessional performances I’ve seen in a long while. Lacklustre at best. I hope they fucking stink the place out at the World Cup, every one of them. It’s obvious they were protecting themselves.

I’m not even arsed that we lost. It happens. It’s been coming in recent weeks. It’s the way we lost.

Brentford might have ended up parking the bus but they didn't start the match doing it.
They flew out of the traps and bossed the first 10 mins where the went close to taking lead twice.
Why do we have to do everything at a snails pace? This give the opposition all the time in the world to set up 2 banks of 5.
We need pace and I don't buy the argument that pace is no good against a packed defence.defenders hate players running at them. We had more than enough chances to run at them and unfortunately the wrong man had the ball. (Stones), not his fault he's played out of position
Still our possession stats should look good.

They had far more good chances than we did.
Take off your blue-tinted glasses.
Even Pep acknowledged they were the better team
What does he know? ;)

Not blue tinted. Thought we were well below what we can do as has been the case against very deep teams recently. Thought selection was odd and playing Gundo and not Bernie in the middle was giving them a leg up. But I thought they were poor as well - it was a shit watch - and I don’t buy the BBC Phil McNulty narrative that they played us off the park with a no fear attitude.

Shocking all round performance not one player performed anywhere near their potential apart from Ederson who stopped us losing by six goals , he was superb , we have been scraping results for a few weeks now and this result was overdue.
Not interested in the penalty appeals because all of them were highly debateable , and we should not need penalties to beat a mid table team at home , there are few players who need a reality check when they come back from the world cup , i suspect a few of them are believing their own headlines and need a kick up the backside.
Disppointing we now have to stew on this result for 6 weeks before the team can put it right , but no better game then the Dippers at home as an incentive , onwards and upwards.

They played right up against Akanji on purpose.

They cut out Stones and Laporte by going direct in to Akanji.

More alarming was the lack of bravery and awareness of winning the second ball from the surrounding players.

At some stage I saw Gundo and Kev duck out of the way of the ball.

Brentford got their tactics spot on and Pep failed to react during the game, despite obvious failings.

The lack of pace has been an issue for sometime, we are very predictable, we used to be devastating on the counter attack, so much so that most teams were feared to attack us in numbers.

Pep is almost untouchable for criticism but the lack of subs today was plain weird and also I don't understand his man management of Grealish, every time he produces he is dropped for the following game, not good for his confidence in my humble.
For Jack to not even make it on to the pitch was utterly bizarre. It’s like Pep struggles to think beyond ”am I risking Gundo not scoring” by taking him off, but just mix it up. We had nothing on the right, so either get Mahrez on or Jack left and switch Phil right.

We always get beat at home before Christmas.
Happened the last few years, didn't do us any harm.

2pts or 3pts or 5pts behind, made no difference before and it won't make no difference this time.

But some players for me was already on the plane to Qatar today, minds obviously elsewhere which at the end of the day is only human plus Brentford deserved their win, just glad it stayed at 2 as it could have been 3 or 4.

I'll back this team to the hilt and I'll slap them when they're off it, today they just wasn't at the races.

No biggie.

It is. As well as Brentford defended, we were dreadful with our crossing today and when we did get it right no one was taking the chance and running in at the back post
It was a case of Haaland or nothing
I think an old fashioned CF is a huge risk..todays defenders are mobile quick and huge..wheres the opportunity..most central strickers in the prem are soo fast and score from breakaways..us having a corner id risky to me as we don't score from them but look vulnerable to conceeding one. Pace and power is everything now..technoque negated as. You can cover round if your teams quick so pppos technique has. Minimal impact

Nothing to do with VAR or refs....

If you cant be sure you cant give it....and you couldnt tell where the handball was over/on the line or not fromthe angles
none of the supposed fouls were penalties
Cancellos dive was a disrgace
Brentford deserved that and we were awful - especially the performances of Stoens and Cancello
That Cancelo dive was an absolute embarrassment - the officials weren't giving close calls, why try flopping to the floor.

I feel sorry for him and I am not sure what state his mind must be in, Wednesday he was the player we knew well at Villa, aggressive and asking questions of defenders and his manager drops him, same earlier in the season with a good performance at Wolves.

Second half Gundo, KDB were running on fumes, yet Pep had Mahrez, Alvarez , Palmer and Grealish sat playing with their plums, weird management and very wrong.

So hallamd was shit today its no service, akanji getting pelters but no protection from midfield, seems akanji is now the new whipping boy, Mahrez will be happy

Akanji didn't need protection from the midfield, it was by-passed with the long ball.

His job was to win his aerial battles and he lost every one.

Yes it's alright Pep saying they were the better team but that leads to the question why he didn't change either tactics or personnel until so late in the game when things clearly weren't working. It's unfathomable really.

We’re not ‘at it’ this season. We’ve had the odd decent performance but that’s it and we’ve not played consistently well at all so far.

Today it looked like the whole team was just bothering at about 70%.

Fuck the World Cup!

If the City lads play in the World Cup like they did today, there'll be quite a few of them coming home nice and early.
On today's form, only Ederson is going to get anywhere near the last four.

We have yet to put in a complete performance for a full game and we've only played a couple of decent teams.

Or, I made Gundogan captain therefore there's no way I can take him off. Too stubborn for good at times is Pep, was crying out for more changes today but he was having none of it
