Brighton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

We got the 3 points and showed signs that we were getting better

Said in the pre-match thread that Brighton is not a pushover and 1 or 2 pundits said City will smash them was way off the mark, Brighton sort of stuck into their game plan and didn't panic, They even pushed up and went for it and City did wobble,

We needed the win big time, even if we did wobble and the referee sent off Akanji to add to the pressure
I will say the Match officials and VAR are trying their hardest to unsettle us this season with yellows and reds,

Many of the Brighton players including Milner should have been giving cards, It's funny that silly fouls by city players result in cards, But Brighton players a little over the top get nothing.

Job done. First 45 minutes excellent. We beat a good side. No we are not near our best but considering we are in some kind of transition, had key injuries and are finding different ways to win a game we are top of the league and will improve as the season moves on. Still top without KDB and the loss of Gundo. 2 massive voids. I think Haaland will score more when KDB is back. Lots to be positive about.

Thought we were on a bit of a suicide mission in the 2nd half. Really let Brighton take the game to us.
Still, a win is a win. Not the most convincing but a much needed 3 points.
Problem is we are not killing off games like we used to. I think thats partly to do with no Gundo or KDB...2 massive voids. We will improve as the season moves on and KDB will make a huge difference.

On the way home, Doku played well for the opening goal, but not great for the rest of the game. Totally frustrating. Leroy he isn’t. Not that they played but think this is a totally underwhelming transfer window. 3 points it is, but we are going to need a lot more next week.

I thought we were brilliant for most of the first half although we did ease down latterly. Brighton were better in the second and showed they are a good team and fair play to them for wanting to play us as football. We lost control as the game went on. Bernie ran and ran but it felt we were outnumbered in midfield at times. Ortega playing long in the second half didn’t work as we were just handing them back the ball. Some of Haaland runs as part of breakaway are strange. He doesn’t give the ball carrier an easy ball that’s for sure. Some of what Foden did in the first half was worth the ticket alone.
We don’t yet look like multiple trophy winners this season.
Hopefully that will come as no team looks brilliant yet.

Great first half, we seemed to tire a bit 2nd half with a few players back from international duty running out of puff. Pep was too slow with the changes, especially Dias and Grealish.

Lovely to see Johnny and Rodri back bossing the midfield, though Josko was great aswell. Doku was electric for 30 mins first half but seems to not be able to live with the pace of the Premier League for the full 90 just yet. Alvarez, Foden, Erling all very sharp aswell. All in all a good win barring a sloppy 20 minute period and more cards of both colours.

4 minutes added time, but 4 more minutes added added time. For the Akanji booking? Should have ended the game with that corner for brighton.
The extra 4 min were for the Solly March injury. When the board goes up that is the minimum mins to play.
