Brighton (H) | Post-Match Thread

Brighton played well in fact very well. They pressed in numbers and their passing was good throughout.
However we have Erling, KDB and Bernie who were the difference between winning and not wiinning. Akanji was poor at RB although Cancelo had a decent game on the other flank.
Need to improve for the Dortmund game.
 
I think pep tells his players if they can't pass forward then pass back rather than hit a hopeful ball forward hoping it goes to a city player. We know why he does this it is to hopefully create space up front that wasn't there the first time round and keep possession.
However I think it's got to a point where the player is automatically passing back without considering the pass forward and it doesn't look good as it looks negative.

Ederson was badly beaten. Poor goalkeeping. Akanji was pushed off ghe ball and again when Trossard raced through. Not good enough from him today.
Brighton really played well second half after Mahrez missed his sitter. Good 3 points for us
 
Expected us to put in a much better display after the defeat last week. We didn't play very well but we got the job done and with the world cup break on the horizon, form doesn't matter, its all about getting the job done until the break.
 
Three games in a row now where we’ve looked miles off it in terms of intensity and sharpness.

Thought we were poor in Copenhagen, distinctly average at Anfield, and poor today.

Bernardo and Rodri ran their blood to water but some of the others were awful.

Ederson and Dias just spent 90 minutes mis-kicking the ball, Akanji was ran rings around by March and Trossard in the second half (he’ll still be dizzy now), Mahrez was terrible he wasn’t even concentrating at times, Grealish started alright but did sod all second half, Haaland had a good first half but he was useless second half couldn’t control the ball but he scored a monster of an opener and a penalty that went past the ’keeper before he moved so you can let him off. de Bruyne did alright, scored a beauty, but he looks proper knackered!

Overall, we looked like we’d taken a phone call while in the pub watching Forest v Liverpool and told we had to play against Brighton at 15.00.

Brighton were very good today but they played a high line and I we only played Haaland down the channels for a run about three times all game. What was that about? He kept making the runs and we just kept not passing for him to run into space.

Everyone in the ground knew it was a pen and yes, the ref had 3 or 4 players betweem him and the foul so he was slightly unsighted so he gave the defender the benefit of the doubt, but 3 fucking minutes for goodness sake. 3 fucking minutes! VAR does itself no favours at all.

It was madness, the strangest VAR decision to date.

And surely all the time played from the incident until the game was eventually stopped should have been added on, it wasn't.

Only 3 mins were added but once it was given there was about another 3 minutes if not more of pissing about!
