Bring the Noise

Does anyone feel like the atmosphere is ever going to get any better? Excluding, The scousers, united, spurs and Chelsea it is pretty much constantly poor nowadays and if you try and convince yourself otherwise you'r ejust kidding yourself. The last two home games I think have been genuinely dire in terms of noise levels, attendance and support. I can't stand Villa fans, think they are as shit as anyone but even they took the piss for 90 minutes on Saturday. Same at the Atalanta game we just brought nothing to the table. Oh except when we sang "Raheem Sterling he's won more than you" to the Villa fans for 30 seconds which would have been fantastically witty if it was remotely true. And the whole leaving on 80 minutes thing is getting worse. I actually saw people leaving early to try and beat the people who leave on 80 mins on saturday. Be off before half time by May. There was 4 minutes of extra time. Your missing a quarter of an hour..... of a 12.30 kick off.......on a Saturday..... and we're 3-0 up. Fuck me it's embarrassing.

People leaving earlier than the people who leave early, love it !

Personally think there should be locked gates at the top of the stairwells that only open on the final whistle .

It will get better but it will probably require a certain demographic of fans to drop away and then leave an area of the ground for like minded fans to congregate.

The onyl areas where like-minded fans can now congregate, and congregate on the future, are corporate hospitality areas. If a demographic drops away as you put it, the club will endeavour to replace them with pound-paying customers, not vocal fans.

Until the two singing ends are joined together it will never get better. The chance came and went with the opening of the new top tier in the south stand.

The ground has thousands of occasional singers who would join in if the ground had one bigger leading voice. As it is it couldn’t be worse because loud away fans drown out each singing end, and they can’t hear each other to respond.

There will be good atmospheres for the biggest of games but for run of the mill games with a full away end it’s now a lost cause.

Yes completely agree when SSL3 opened it was an opportunity to either create a singing end up there or as an alternative reserve the seats from those who had moved into level 3 from Level 1 and designate those seats for singers only.

It will take a lot to improve it, but the problem of the location of the away end has been a constant since the ground opened, and the atmosphere has been much better. It is an issue but not something new or something not mitigated previously.

Sadly It might take a few poor seasons and a reduction in attendances now to improve things so like minded fans can find seats in blocks near each other. Relatively, Uniteds support vocally has improved, from a low base, over the last few years and Palace fans had the advantage of a half full stadium to choose an area to fill and designate as an ‘Ultra’ end with little opposition as it did not require much reallocation of fans.

That is true based on our current trajectory. The demographic I was thinking of was the more fickle nature of our support who may be less inclined to go if success does not continue.

Palace Ultras fell out with the club and stopped going, as Palace wouldn’t relocate them to a block behind the goal, as other Palace fans In that area of the stand would have had to be relocated elsewhere in the stand. Don’t know what the outcome was.

Crystal Palace ‘ultras’: How Holmesdale Fanatics’ bid to make themselves heard has left Selhurst Park quieter than ever

Last season the HF met the club on several occasions to discuss a switch from their position in block B of the Holmesdale Stand’s lower tier to the more central block E behind the goal, from where they hoped to generate an even louder noise and swell into the largest singing section in English football. Palace initially agreed but after the plans were leaked, some long-time fans already based in block E railed against the threat of eviction from their familiar seats, and the club stalled.

Does anyone else wonder what Danny Wilson and the other club directors think when they read this thread? It’s a great snap shot of how frustrated we have become at the worsening atmosphere at the Etihad, and the inability of the club and the fans to improve the atmosphere.

Yeah, but % growth in like-for-like revenues will get them a bonus.
