Bring the Noise

A lot of old Maine Rd fans won’t go and haven’t gone as they are old school have good drink a smoke and a bit of banter

They won’t go to be told you can’t drink while watching the game, can’t smoke inside stadium and told to sit down all the time especially after being in work all day

The club needed to tap into the younger fans, those that are social media and games consoles mad

The problem then is a lot of the characters gone, replaced by fans who would rather share the experience with those on social media

This is why atmosphere is gone at most grounds not just ours

It’s just another stick to hit us with
nailed it.

By the way, to some of the naysayers earlier in the thread: there are only a few left now for tonight now and the remaining games are either sold out or virtually sold out. This one, as a rearranged game straight after Easter, was always going to get a big “walk up”.
fucking seat counters do my swede in. Some of em are on here days before a game to 'point out' that it's not sold out. Why the fuck do they do this? I might even answer my own question here by saying they're more interested in the 'bantz' on social meedia then actual, proper, football.

On the younger fans front (relative to FOCs), the Club should have compromised with Daz Clarke over his Face Value ticket site IMHO. He’s helped to get many thousands of extra Blues into home games:

My youngest is 12 and he loves the banter the singing and will only share his experience after the game or half time on his phone

at Wembley on Saturday he was singing all through the game and pissed off that half and half scarves tourist were just sat there on the phone

mind you he was told from an early age not to embarrass me by using his phone during the game and I reminded him daily of the chants and characters we had when we were shit

his twin on the other can’t be bothered anymore

Nice one, hopefully they can add to the noise tonight!

Big atmosphere needed tonight, good thing is, after the last couple of results for Liverpool, I think the team will be bang at it from the first whistle which will hopefully get the crowd going.

Hopefully, we also get a ref who does nowt about their ’keeper wasting time n’all because that always gets the crowd up for it (a bit of a shit thing to want but it really does get the crowd going!).

Are you still allowed to have banter on social media or is it classed as bullying now?

Never met before or since but Daz is a good lad. Sorted me out with a lift to some shit airport down south for a flight to Turin for a Juventus game at daft o clock a few years back.

nailed it.

Definitely. There is little difference these days with the improvement in TVs, coverage, streaming etcetera to being at the game. In fact with the prices, cost and hassle of travel and sanitisation in the grounds, rules etcetera for many it is more trouble than it's worth. Clubs, especially ours, have to ask why when we are in the most successful period in our history and are playing some great football in the process, we still don't sell out. I know people will jump on this but we don't, watch the footage tonight, there will be plenty of empty seats, mine being one of them. I've had my seat up for sale but had an email 30 minutes ago saying it hasn't sold. These are the hard unpalatable facts and the club should be asking why.

There’s a lot of boring fucks who have literally nothing else in their life apart from obsessing over football.

Listen, I love City and I’m a season ticket holder.

But I also have a family, a career and several other hobbies. City is just one of them.

I know this’ll piss off a few of the “I go home and away and am first in and last out and sing the loudest” gang.

I love singing at the match btw. I’m in 115 and sing more than 99% of people in there. Just City isn’t the be all and end all of my existence.

Yep.
I'm not really arsed about whether we sell out, and never have been. Nobody was until tv kicked in and the not so self-aware sat on bar stools and couches began pointing at the telly and shouting.
Your other points are spot on, certainly for an old stager like me who went through the barren 30 years. The day out and fun kept us going and a day at the match was a day off from often harsh reality.
Nowadays i am pissed off before i get into the stadium after 'security' have made me walk fucking miles, searched me twice and generally shook me down more than airport security.
It aint the same anymore but sometimes, like in the time it's taken me to write this, i wish i was there.

I’m arsed, in that, it just aesthetically looks and feels better being part of a full crowd.

Getting older is a factor although I know we have some very committed older Blues. What was fun at 25 isn't at 65. Due to being away and some health issues the Liverpool game was my first live game for some time. It was a great game and it was nice catching up with the regulars near me again but I can't say actually being there was anymore enjoyable than watching it on the telly. Sad I know but it's true.

At the match , for 90 minutes there is nothing g else in my life , never has been.
But like you I have so much going on that 3 miles from the ground I am looking forward to everything else.
I believe it is because I love the football, the pep philosophy , much more than the results.
In the old days it was the the result , and we often lost.

We are stuck in a vicious circle where loads of people aren’t going because the atmosphere and match day experience is often shit. We’ve got a bunch of people trying desperately to get the atmosphere going in the wrong areas singing the wrong songs and that’s making it worse. And it’s giving us a PR problem because we are starting to get a label for it and that doesn’t appeal to young fans.

The missed opportunity was the south stand extension.

The rest of the season has the potential to be great but it also has the potential to be awful.

Whilst i sympathise with the club for needing to wash its own face with match day revenue, I think the nuclear option would be to rip everything up and slash prices in specific areas. The lost revenue might easily be recouped in the longer term through attracting young fans.
If the club are reclassifying many areas for corporate (again) I don’t see why they can’t use those potential profits to subsidise behind the goals at both ends with price reductions/family ticket offers and move the family stand to the upper tier, introduce safe standing in the lower part and facilitate a singing section, which can be extended should the north stand extension go ahead. Pay your age for the young uns capped at a low rate, low prices for carers, there’s thousands of people looking after disabled relatives who have been priced out of football, the unemployed have virtually been ran out of football, let’s encourage something similar to what we do for the kids/students when sales are low/cup games, unfortunately the club only seem interested in the Gentrification of it, and are heading for trouble should the trophies dry up or Pep leave. Pricing in football is a difficult pitch, both Wigan & Blackburn had dirt cheap tickets in the Prem to attract day trippers then got relegated & lost half their support overnight, they ended up having to charge more for Championship football, an important few years ahead for those in charge
