Who would the labour supporters (me included) like as the new leader?

I'm not partisan to any party but I would say Miliband. Anyone as long as it isn't Jack Straw

There are two Millibands in the running.

I trust that the Tory's will do the right thing and that's why I voted for them this time. If they don't I will be as disppointed in them as I am with Labour at the moment. It is going to be fcuking horrible though and whether they can convince the public that what they have done is the right thing is another matter.

Which is what exactly? And spare me the philosophical stuff and things with no basis, give me actual Tory policies that will benefit the wider country.

I'll start off with the proposed rise in NI contributions. That would have been the singular most damaging thing that could be done to the economy.

Stopping tax credits to families earning over 50K.

Cap public sector pensions above 50K (I think 50K is right)

Public sector pay freeze 2011 (not for the lowest paid though)

These are quick thoughts off the top of my head.

Edit - And to be fair mate, all I've heard from Labour supporters is they voted for them because they're the party of the working class (allegedly) and haven't voted Tory because they're snobs. I don't think I've heard one single Labour supporter on here say anything about their policies.

I'm not going to gloat here, or to argue to toss or anything. Let me just say this, God (or whoever) help all of us. The new Tory budget is about to fuck us all.

Have you seen it?

How do you know? Perhaps they may start with the many wasteful and useless Capitol programmes like "Building Schools for the future" or cut out many of the other PFI projects that will saddle this country with debts for years yo come.

Or you may care to look at the Tax Payers Alliance site at

<a class="postlink" href="http://tpa.typepad.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://tpa.typepad.com/</a>

Be warned the waste has been mind blowing

Which PFI projects in the Manchester area would you scrap?

I wonder how many contributors to this thread will be venting their spleen against Cam and his chums come 6 months time. I can't promise that I won't say I told you so.

I wonder when the duty on champagne and pimms will be dropped, good show.

Those three things alone would single handedly turn the country around wouldn't they?

It is only fair rich people should be taxed more heavily than poor people.

Pay frozen for 2010/11 anyway, and it was 1% last year.

The banking system was Self regulated, and took the piss!!! All parties are to blame for the financial mess the world is in,they allowed it to happen, did they suddenly lose their voices, moral fibre, or integrity, No! they simply let it go on , See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil . This so called political system is corrupt to the core and we are argueing about a bunch of career politicians when in real terms there isnt a bit of difference between them. They`re policies are ALL lucid at best, a kind of mend as you go.

We need to look at the powers behind these parties, not some sad little bufoon, pleading "Let me have the first go" at the opening of parliament, asking some banal question. While we are at it get rid of the House of Lords
Cronyism is rife, lok at them when they changed the ruling on nepotism," okay ,your wife works for me, and my wife works for you".

Cheesy, your score Top Gun score is zero. I have a job.

I help sad people find their war ancestors, rather than create them.

So, as I said to mikey, this Labour government has done fuck all for you too. We workers should all be glad they've gone.

Edit - What's your job? Sounds interesting. Genuine question by the way :-)

I'm a librarian specialising in genealogy, particularly military family history.

No, of course they won't turn the country around on their own. I didn't say they would.

Yes, the rich should be taxed more. I was unaware that Tory tax plans didn't include this.

Seeing as you're on about tax, remind us again, how much tax & NI have you paid?
