All the major players we signed were promised contract extension/improvements if the player came in and settled and was successful.I think he had such a good euros and Pep and Txiki trusted Bielsa as well?
Toure, Aguero, Silva, Dias, Rodri and Ederson as examples, but what other team was going to offer Phillips 160k a week.
The Champions of England should not be offering those terms to a player like that, he was NEVER at that level.
Because most teams wanna keep the players we are trying to take. We are often trying to get rid of the players we don't want that others might need. The dynamics are different.So why does Manchester City never get top dollar for our players,

Well, that's exactly what we are often doing. Taking another team's Foden. It's not as if we are ever interested in Newcastle's version of a player they are trying to move.

Leeds were offering 100-120k in his new deal, we offered 140-160k depending where you get your numbers/rumours.All the major players we signed were promised contract extension/improvements if the player came in and settled and was successful.

But it was a very big contract to offer in the first place, as said, very unlike the way we do business.
We once had to pay top money to get players to sign in the early days of the takeover, that's was understandable.
But as Multi Champions and signing a player from a lesser club the personal deal for Phillips was way over the top.

Very true, none us know the real story but it's been mentioned many times and the reason for the difficulty in moving him on.find it hard to believe its 160 but thems the stories.

Doesn’t sound that much to me, I presume he’d be their highest paid player, England regular,and they wanted to keep him.Find it hard to believe Leeds were offering that in their circumstances.
