Question. Was Van Gaal's last two seasons at Bayern the ones when Wolfsburg and Dortmund won the league?

No. Wolfsburg won the league in the year Klinsmann was Bayern coach - 2008/09.

Van Gaal took over and rebuild it. Cleaned out the bad apples, built in a new system, made Schweinsteiger a central midfielder, found Müller and Badstuber in the U23, got Robben von Madrid.

The Bayern era of now started with van Gaal in 2009/10.

After struggles at the begin Bayern nearly won the treble with that young team - only lost the CL final against Mourinho's Inter. But they won both German titles. Schweinsteiger, Müller and Robben then had a really great World Cup and the German team that played "Louis van Löw"-style with a lot of the Bayern players - made 3rd.

In the next year there have been a lot of injury problems especially in the first part of the season. Some of the World Cup participants showed tiredness. The Bayern bench at this time was not like it was today. Bayern already was 14 points behind at the end of December - that can totally be pinned on the injury problems. Demichelis and van Bommel who had trouble with van Gaal went in winter. And the Alpha males van Gaal and Hoeneß really clashed together. That finally lead to the end of van Gaal in Munich.

Heynckes tweaked van Gaal's system - added especially a defensive aspect - but a lot of last year's treble is based on van Gaal's work.

Let's face it like this - if Manchester United gets van Gaal or if they really have the guts for it - he will clean up first. And what he will build will be a success on the long run. I do not have any doubt about that. He is a difficult person - but he really is a genius.

He might not have the highest speed or be the toughest guy - but there is less pressing in the EPL and there might be more spaces.

But if he would leave to Manchester he would follow van Gaal.

Wasn't it reported last week that Welbeck wants out of United?

I can see Muller replacing him.

First - Bayern does not let Müller go. He has contract until 2017. And he is not a normal player.

But when van Gaal would really get him he will play behind the striker in a role called the "shadow peak". Van Gaal named 2 players like this - Litmanen in his Ajax system and Müller with Bayern. In some things they are different - Litmanen was more the no. 10 type whereas Müller's biggest trade is his movement. Müller was the only person with a free role in van Gaal's Bayern system - and it was cut out for him.
We have had many discussions about how Pep was weakening Bayern and it has. Pep's tactics and messing with the team cost Bayern the CL. Bayern should have won this CL title. The Madrid team that beat you were not even better than the Madrid team you beat in 2012. Dortmund with their injury crisis probably would have knocked them out had just Lewandowski not being suspended let alone Schmelzer, Bender, Gundogan and Subotic all injured.

Pep never actually accepted the blame for the loss. He in truth blamed the players for playing badly. He has now openly come out and implied certain players are against his tactics. Muller is probably the ring leader and chief protestor against Pep. If Guardiola stays he will want Martinez, Muller and maybe even Gotze to leave.

This summer it's Muller or Pep. If the board choose Pep, then he will destroy this golden generation Bayern have.

Promotion for Leipzig sealed today after beating saarbrücken 5-1. Top atmosphere here in the messestadt!
Oh yeah, 42713 was the crowd today. 2nd division here we are!

Reus did not have his best game today, but still got an assist and was involved in the first goal. The best player in the Bundesliga and top five in the world.

Never like to see a red bull team doing well

What's to stop them getting one?

They have too change their badge, which currently looks like the RED BULL logo, they have to make changes in the management, currently only people related to RED BULL, and they have to allow ordinary club members.

Seeing as the club's goal is 1. Liga football, I think they'll make the necessary changes. Great news for Leipzig, just a shame I don't live there anymore!

-- Sun May 04, 2014 12:37 am --

Nice video, but I don't understand the point you're trying to prove.

Just don't like how red bull takeover clubs and change their whole identity like they did with Austria Salzburg and attempted to do with Sachsen Leipzig.

You're not the only one. However, this is hardly a new phenomenon in the world of football, is it?

Doesn't make it right or any better, does it?

Great day for modern football ;-)

It is not true. It is the first time in germany, that a football club was founded just to sell a product. That is really a new thing and i hope it is not the future of football.

You say you don't like it, but give no reasons. Almost every football club has changed its identity at some point. What makes Red Bull so different to others?

Possibly true that it's the first time in Germany, but I am yet to hear a plausible explanation from any German fan of a 'Traditionsverein' as to why it's perfectly acceptable for Bayer to use Leverkusen, and earlier, Uerdingen, as a vehicle to promote itself. Or indeed, VW with Wolfsburg. Carl Zeiss Jena? Energie Cottbus? And don't give me the 'Werkself' crap. If they were real company teams, they wouldn't be competing in professional leagues, feeding off the scraps of Bayern's complete and utter dominance of the 'perfect' Bundesliga model. Company teams are, by definition, there to provide sporting facilities for their employees, meaning they are amateur or semi-professional. Do Kießling or Völler work for Bayer? No, they don't. So, Bayer 04 is a vehicle to promote the company - a pro football team that buys and sells players like any other.

Wrong on all accounts, look at page 26, Bundesliga review (old thread, see below). Old hat that giving reasons.

There is a good argument for clubs like Leverkusen. It was the sports club of the company and so ever supported by the company.

Hi,

I totally disagree on that one: There's no good argument (or rather no excuse) for the existance of B**** Leverscum! True, it may have started as a sportsclub for the company's workers - but we're talking professional football now, so the 'club' as it is now is only there for one single purpose - for advertising purposes, to promote the name of the Company and it's chemical products. In fact, the 'club' is a fully owned subsidiary of the company's PR-department. Definitely does not qualify for a football club IMO.

The Bundesliga could do without the Leverscums, Ho$$enheims, Wolfsburgs, RB Leipzigs.

Koln, Dusseldorf, Hertha, Pauli, even Paderborn are by far more attractive than these plastic clubs... May the best team win.
