People who resent helping their fellow Germans, giving them a hand to get back on their on feet, yet were ready and willing to accept financial aid 40 years before in order for them to get back on their feet. The ignorance and resentment from hypocritical westerners astounds me.
Getting back on their feet ? How long is that supposed to take ? West Germany didn't only rise because of foreign aid it rose through bloody hard work by the average citizen, something that most West Germans would tell you is a foreign concept to the average "ossi" who almost all claimed to be specialists at something or other when they came west in the 90's but in most cases never liked the idea of breaking sweat. In fact many of them in my experience are bone idle, they grew used to having to do very little in the DDR and that is one bit of the old regime they resent letting go.
The easterners wanted everything now, now, now but didn't want to put in the hard work for it, a fact that still breeds much understandable resentment in the west.
The fact that they bang on and on about how life was better "back then" when it obviously wasn't, yet still take everything they are handed doesn't go down well either.
We could bang the ball back and forth over the net ad infinitum on this one, we all have our own views.
