Glad you enjoyed the trip. My remark on the atmosphere was more or less aimed at our own fans, as the support at home is far from good these days.

The away fans are usually pretty good anyway, unless you have clubs like Wolfsburg or Hoffenheim visiting.

If you still have a chance try and get your hands on "Apfelwein" or as it is called by the locals "Stöffsche", "Ebbelwoi".

Its the drink of choice for most of the people in Frankfurt and you havent really been to Frankfurt without drinking Ebbelwoi (and suffering the consequences). ;)

You will definitely be able to get it at Dauth-Schneider as well.

I read Dauth-Schneider and beer - I did not even know they serve beer there ;)

Hehe yeah, I personally have never asked for beer there and I wouldnt be surprised either if they didnt server any beer at all.

But obviously thats the case... typical English ffs! Going to a local Ebbelwoi "pub" and asking for beer!! ;)

Barbarians the lot of you!

To put both your minds at rest I have just returned from an afternoon's drink at Dauth-Schneider, as advised.

Ordered a couple of Ebbelwoi to which the lady serving asked me if I wanted to try it first to which I replied in the negative. She then asked me if I was sure!!

Anyway me and my mate both enjoyed it. Quite refreshing, not too sweet and I imagine drinks and tastes like cider authentically should. Don't know if I could drink it all night, mind.

Thanks for the additional tip!

Bayern yesterday broke the all time Bundesliga record for away wins in a season.

Oh, congratulations - interesting as a wet sponge though. I wonder if the Bayern fans (and officials) care more about such stats than about the atmosphere at the AArena - absolute disgraceful - those clapper things even left some genuine Bayern fans feel mortally embarrassed :-). Okay, to be fair, your Ultra lot decided not to show up for the occasion let alone support their team in a CL match...

I couldn't give a shit mate. Dresden has atmosphere, I'd sooner have success. In my experience those who bang on and on about "atmosphere" are generally sad f#ckers who never win anything. There is nothing wrong with Bayern atmosphere, try a few of our away games. Thanks for the congratulations though !

Just got in from this, so thanks again everyone for your help.

A great day out. I'll post in a bit more detail tomorrow with my thoughts. Although I went to City's CL game at the Allianz, this was my first trip to a Bundesliga game, so there were a number of things that struck me.

I will say the card/drinks system employed at/around the ground which was referred to could work really well with a little more craft.

Glad you enjoyed your trip mate !

Well done.

Yes - you can drink that all night. And it is easier to get drunk on it than to get drunk on beer. I remember when my parents left us some new pre-stage Eppelwoi (I do not know an English word for it - it is not apple juice anymore, still pretty sweet but no Cider - Most) at home. I must have been about 11 or 12 and it was the first time I was drunk...

It is not that they do not brew beer in Frankfurt or the area. But there is places in Sachsenhausen that are simply the traditional Ebbelwoi-houses. And you have to drink Ebbelwoi there and eat Handkäs with music (some kind of cheese with a lot of onions) or Grie Soß (Eggs with green sauce). So the last dish is usually something we eat traditionally on the Thursday prior to Eastern.

My father was working in the sales department for a company which sold special farming machines world wide and he sometimes took out some guests from Arabian Countries or other regions and was taking his family with him. We usually made the trip to Dauth-Schneider or Lorsbach Thal or to the Wagner.

Same when we had visits from families of European partner towns as my parents were participating in all kind of exchanges. Sachsenhausen, Heidelberg and a boats tour to Rüdesheim. Nothing is worse than Rüdesheim I guess - starting with the music and the visitors there...

Away it's ok, but at home it's often an absolute disgrace.
I had a laugh when people critized the ultras for not showing up against Arsenal and 'causing' a disgraceful atmosphere.
We're are talking about approx. 500 people who decided to stand behind the upper tier. Me too but I'm not a ultra.
The rest (68000 minus 500 minus 3000 Arsenal supporters) have not been debarred from supporting the team. And supporting doesn't mean to clap monotonously with a fucking clap banner. Clap banners are pure shit in football! It may favor typical german clap-monkeys...
They can use it for boring basketball but not for football.

It's a lot to do with the younger generation coming through, Hoeneß is right they are the ones who should be doing the shouting. It's the same everywhere at football these days, modern fans seem incapable of creating a decent atmosphere (visit a few premier league grounds and it is no better, ask older City fans on here how quiet the new stadium is compared to years ago at Maine Road). When I first started watching Bayern in the 80's the atmosphere was fine, but now those guys (SK 73 etc) are older. Nothing has folllowed them, instead of complaining the arseholes of Shickeria should create a f##king atmosphere, or can't they do it without bengal fire ?
As regards a few hundred dopes standing behind the upper tier as far as I'm concerned they can stand in the Englischer Garten for 90 minutes, who cares ? They will achieve absolutely nothing.

My main interest is success on the pitch, anything else is just window dressing. Anybody can wave a flag and shout a lot.

That´s the spirit! Success is all that matters!

Pretty sure that if you lookup "Bayern Fan" in a dictionary a pic of you will show up BB. ;)

We had this discussion before and I am sure that our views will never match, but I personally consider it worrying how arrogant you can sound towards other clubs.

I am pretty sure that Eintracht Frankfurt will not have any meaningful success in the next 100 years, so our loyality and passion is something I feast on.

You consider this some last resort for fans of shit clubs, but to me there is nothing left other than feeling pride for taking thousands wherever we go, for beeing there no matter which division we play and for creating a wall of noise wherever we go.

This IS something to be proud of! Maybe this comes automatically by going through hell and back with your club.
You will most likely never be in the same position with Bayern, but talking down other fans because of it?

And even though you dont like Schickeria they are part of Munichs fanscene, same as the hooligans, same as the casual folks that go once every bluemoon, same as the veteran season card holder or the tourists.

Its the sum of all the little pieces that adds up to the football event and in the case of Schickeria I am pretty sure that your Arena would be completely dead without them and its not like it is a cauldron of noise at home anyway.

Atmosphere and singing is part of the football experience and I personally never want to see an atmosphere similar to the National Team matches at my own club.

People with silly hats, clapping hands and flags painted on their faces....

Football has to be dirty, smelly and loud. The day those plastic events become a common sight in the Bundesliga is the day I stop going.

But yeah, thats maybe just my two cents.

You're probably right, if it was only about me and my German Club, but I went to Arsenal's CL matches away to Dortmund and Schalke and guess what, both sets of home supporters created a cracking atmosphere throughout even though their team was trailing 1-0 or 2-0 respectivly for long periods of time...so it has got little to do with never winning anything...

And the Bayern fans I spoke to where from my area more or less (Wuppertal) and usually go to Bayern's away matches in the Rhine-/Ruhrgebiet (Schalke, Dortmund, Düsseldorf the likes) so they know Bayern's away support ist much better than at home...

"Sad fuckers" is a very questionable phrase. It encompasses the VAST majority of football fans. If these "sad" people just packed it in, football would be a miserable game. Bare in mind that you are on a Man City forum, we know what it's like not to win anything.
