Couple of interesting things to share regarding fan culture etc.

So...as some of you might have heard Dynamo Dresden was forced to have a complete home game without fans due to the incidents when they played Dortmund in the German cup.

Video of the incidents can be found here:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YuJDZ7sknk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YuJDZ7sknk</a>

There where about 20k of them on an away trip to Dortmund during the week and they basically burned tons of flares. Nothing that out of the ordinary as burning flares still happens a lot in the 1st and 2nd divison, however DFB decided to ban them from next years Cup games. This was then reverted and instead they got forced to have their home match versus Ingolstadt completely without fans.

So their fans decided to show their support anyway and first showed up at the training session before the match and then during the match itself about 10 thousands of them showed up at the Arena nevertheless and proceeded to support their team as usual.
The video is pretty lenghty and parts of it show interviews in German, however its still nice to watch imho to see that a club and its supporters can stick together through those hard times and that the fan scenes in Germany don´t take shit from the German press or the DFB.

A week after this match Dresden played away in Frankfurt yesterday evening and they were not allowed any away fans either (2nd consequence of the Dortmund incidents).

However 500 fans still made it in the Arena (dressed up as neutrals) and started to support their time anyway.

After the match Frankfurt Fans attacked the Dresden Fans and despite the police it kicked off (both Frankfurt and Dresden Fans are notorious for beeing violent).

Frankfurt won the game 3-0 and took over the leadership in the second division, however there are still 5 teams fighting for the 3 relegation spots and its as close as it can be points wise.

Gonna be interesting to see what is going to happen next week when Frankfurt plays in Berlin as its then our turn to not have any away fans allowed (due to throwing flares during the match versus Düsseldorf).

Fun times ahead! :)

even though i like the stadiums and systems in germany i think i prefer the fans here. to me the germans seem like a bunch of geeks with microphones coming to a cheerleeding session...

Guess its a matter of preference really.

When I was in the UK to watch football I really liked the "pub culture" you guys have, so gathering up before the match, getting drunk, sing etc.

This is not that popular in Germany as you can still get drunk inside the stadium and don´t have to do it before.

However in terms of atmosphere I prefer the "geeks with microphones" style for sure over the atmosphere in England.

I was so disappointed by it that I havent been back ever since. However I take it thats the price you pay for slowly getting rid of the "working class" people in english football due to the small fortune you have to pay for getting a ticket these days. :(

don't get me wrong it's good and the atmosphere is great

but as you say it's just preference!

Bayern at it again, 2-0 up after 12 minutes against Hertha. Muller and Robben. But Dortmund won yet again so Bayern can keep thrashing teams but their purple patch means they're still well behind Dortmund. Dortmund are playing with a ruthlessness we could use at this stage of the season that would have helped us stay ahead of the vermin.

While the top four are doing their business in style (FC Bayern and Schalke 04) or more the hard way (Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach), there is tradition dying at the bottom: FC Köln, Hamburger SV, Hertha BSC, FC Kaiserslautern. One or even two will end up in Bundesliga 2.

Would love to see Gladbach in the CL next season. But with Reus leaving in the summer I can't see them progressing very far. Shame really, as they do play some really good football.

Any of the Germans on here know if they've lined up a replacement for Reus? Dortmund are going to be even more of a force with him next season.

They haven´t a replacement yet.
Though Marco Reus is a star now, the team itself is more that of mediocre players put into a perfect system (the real star is their coach Lucien Favre). The same players had to play the relegation play-offs last year, so one can see, what he has made of that team

Gladbach is playing Bayern in the cup semis tomorrow
