I can only draw two conclusions to why Thiago played as a DM, 1) Pep is an idiot 2) Martinez and Gustavo are extremely unfit!

Schweinsteiger could have started there. Martinez and Gustavo could have played a half each. Was just a baffling decision from Pep as was signing Thiago in the first place.

You need a degree to play for Klopp (this is from the Malaga game last season). :)

Schweinsteiger is not fit right now. He just came back from surgery and is in a slowly build up. Saturday he played 20 minutes - today it was 25.

Guardiola is building on an altered system with some other tasks for some of the players. So it is not only about getting fit but also about knowing the system. He does not want to build Baycelona - but the team certainly did not play perfect last year and if you want to stay on top you have to get better and make alterations. The test matches showed a lot playing through the middle - whereas last year we mostly played over the wing. Too have more possibilities just helps...

Martinez did not play until now - not a minute. He seems to have some injury problems right now, too. Gustavo and Dante just came back into training last week, too.

Too play like this against Dortmund was risky - but actually - Guardiola did not even have a choice.

What decided that a one-off cup game would be played at one of the competing teams grounds, and not neutral venue?
Last year it was at the Allianz Arena. As far as I know(and someone correct me if I'm wrong) it is usually at the Cup winners stadium, but since it was at our place last year they moved it to Signal Iduna Park. I may be wrong though.

As for the game, I'm quite mad still but it is way too early to jusge the team and Pep yet, and we were missing some key players too. Anyway congrats to Dortmund!

A hugely entertaining game which Dortmund deservedly won but it was just the German charity shield and let's see how things go when the BL starts.
I've been telling people for weeks that writing off BVB simply because Götze has gone is stupid.
As for Bayern when the likes of Ribery, Martinez, Götze, Schweinsteiger etc are all fully fit and on form we will still take some stopping !

I cannot express the pure pleasure that I felt watching Dortmund showboating for the last 20 minutes of this game. Could have been 10-0. The bonus was Guardiola smacking Thiago across the face during a drinks break to show he was in charge. Just a quickie though Bladrerunner, why isn't Herr Uli in jail yet?

Probably because he hasn't been convicted of anything yet ?

A - But I know, and you know, we won the one that mattered back in May !

B - Well no it couldn't :-) As Klopp says it was a great game, both sides played some good stuff.
They deserved it on the day.

By the way do you have any info on Kirchhoff he played in all the pre season games except this one, im curious why Pep didnt play him over a not fully fit Dante and an abysmal DvB. other than that decision i thinke everything else was pretty much outta Pep's hands.....
