Can Steven Gerrard be classed as a domestic failure?

Anyone (myself included) posting on a football forum about someone who played in the Premier League, for England and won several trophies being a ‘failure’ in a footballing sense is more than a bit comical tbh.
Especially when you consider he was one of the reasons they won what they did. He was instrumental in every bit of success they had in that period of time. He was a great player. Bit of a dick off the pitch but I’ve not met many who didn’t have a bit of a big man complex due to playing at a high level.

Obviously one of the outstanding midfielders of his generation and to deem him as a failure in terms of silverware won as his club at the time were not at the level they are today is barmy in my book.

Should Steven Gerrard be considered a failure domestically?

Domestic Honours
I'm not arguing he wasn't a good player but when it mattered in the league he went missing or was at fault either partially or fully for his teams losses.

When you see what Phil Foden has already achieved domestically at City
I wonder if he regrets not leaving Liverpool for a better, more successful club?
You could argue he has already had more success as a manager domestically at Rangers than he ever did as a player.

You can’t say was he a failure and then list 5 trophies he won.

The Premier League is the bread and butter of domestic football (or all football imo) but normally the best team wins it. Gerrard was never in the best team. At times he wasn’t even in the top four teams of yet still dragged them into that contention.

For me he’s been the best midfielder in the Premier League era.

The premier League is the toughest to win, he didn't win it. Overated to fuck because he is English and at liverpool.

I generally agree with that assessment, although Liverpool should have won the league in 2008/9, and could have won it in 2013/14 had they not bottled it

One of the best of his generation. Winning isn't everything, one player can't win trophies when the rest are dogshit. You have to admire his decision to stay at his boyhood club for his career but when you're as good as he was, it's a mistake not to move to win titles. He should have moved to Chelsea and proven himself a great by winning the league with them.

From the position they had I would agree but both seasons the best team won. Both ours and Uniteds teams were so much better.
