Can we afford to let Barry go?

Can't see anything on this but he was MOM today against Chelsea. Just gutted that we let him go. He was the main man in our midfield and as a result, Yaya is now wasted trying to do what Gareth did instead of making direct runs into the box

Can't fault the logic.

Amazing that we gave this guy away, the club is being run like a bit of a joke at the moment. Zero cover left at centre back when we had all summer to bring in a classy partner for Kompany and then could have had Nastasic coming through gradually or as cover.

Then we go and give Barry to Everton, amazing fuck up - fair play he's a bit slow, but he's consistent as hell, gives his all for the cause and won't kick up a stink if left on the bench for a few weeks. Ideal squad member.

Garcia only stayed because he can "play" centre back, and I use play very loosely. Barry should have stayed, im sure he played centre back for villa a few times too? Although I wouldn't have played him there for city tbfh, but just thinking logically as to why Garcia was picked over him.

And in Gareth Barry, a loan signing from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, he had the game's outstanding performer - epitomised by a brilliant goal-saving tackle on Samuel Eto'o as Chelsea's new striker looked poised to profit from an error by Everton keeper Tim Howard on the half-hour.

Thats what happens when you get rid after giving him no game time to show what he can do. Get your act together quickly Manuel, you said you know all about Stoke, a team that dominates midfield, yet you put Yaya and Rodwell in against them?

Looked to me like Barry was wanting a new challenge. Good luck to Barry at Everton . I think Barry was a great buy for Manchester City in 2009 .I remember Aston Villa weren't happy we bought him .

simply not true. barry was desperate to stay here.

Can't even remember the last Yaya run from midfield. We could've tried Fernandinho alongside Barry with Yaya pushing up. Think Yaya is wasted in his current role.

You realise we had 3 centre-backs out injured?

Barry is well past it. Any memories of League Cup against Villa, or FA Cup Final come to mind?

Everton defended deep today and he was constantly late with his challenges. If Everton played an open game as we play, he'd have got really found out.

How do you know Dimichelis isn't the classy partner you talk about? 8 seasons at Bayern and played very well last season according to observers of Spanish football.

You're so smart. Thanks for the pointer but my comments are still valid and topical

-- Sat Sep 14, 2013 8:52 pm --

It was probably when Gaz Baz last played for us!!!

You can only mention 2 poor games, which were probably the 2 worst TEAM performances of the season. If we are going to put payers on the scrap heap after those performances then that's half our squad gone. He isn't past it, the role he plays (and is happy to do so) is a role where you can easily go unnoticed but still be vital for the team. He is proving to be a big loss so far this season as it is stifling Yaya.

Barry would be an excellent squad player still, as I said don't have to play him every week, but he's a great experienced player to have.

Demichelis, 32 years old, last minute cover signing. i was hoping we'd get a top CB partner for Kompany this summer, but we didn't prioritise that area. Stupidity.

Not only that, it also released Fellaini.

hazard, mata, mikel, oscar, lampard, on the park today and gareth barry was the best player by a country mile , at 32 he the same age as dimichelis and yet gazbaz is "past it" ?? Hes been the most consistent player for city since the takeover , never gets injured or suspended ,(dimichelis out for six weeks , and yet barry didnt miss 6 matches in 4 seasons through injury) and we desperately missed him at cardiff and stoke , hes a calming influence and he enabled yaya to storm forward rip teams to pieces , i would have him back tomorrow.

should not have gone , good teams have players who dont play every week who are big earners, utd have lots of big wage earners who dont get in every week, thought he played well today. maybe we are not as rich as we thought. he went to get him off the wage bill. are we better off without him, NO

Agreed we made a big mistake letting Barry go he would certainly steady the ship right now. I feel got Yaya right now with Barry at his side he knows he has someone he can depend on.

Well after today I guess the Everton fans are glad they've got a past it midfielder. Sometimes doing you're job is not enough for some, maybe he should have set fire to his house and changed his name so it sounded foreign.

Spot on how so many of our fans slag him off. He had one year left should of kept him he would of proved the club right to keep him.

Can't fault the logic.
Said exactly the same on deadline day. Same applies in other areas too, Jovetic, just doesn't have the same desire & will to win that Tevez did... Despite what Tikki and Soriano say...Does our Lower wage policy automatically equate to the arrival of inferior players... Just a thought !!

We have let two warriors leave recently tevez and dejong and we havent replaced them , they both left because they were not offered new deals , £150k-£250k a week buys world class , £80k-£100k buys good players ,( Arsenal have signed Ozil on an apparent £250k a week , hes world class)modern football will always have a common denominator ,money.
