Cars you have had…

My current car is a BMW 5 series M Sport in dark blue
Perfect for lane 3 when driving on motorways as other cars pull over in to lane 2 when they see me approaching in their rear view mirror.
One of the advantages of looking like an unmarked Police car.!!

I have a black one and you see drivers slowing down when approaching you. Funny as…. has run flats which anytime I hit a pothole feels like I’ve just run into a brick wall so I’m not a huge fan of it.

Best car I’ve ever owned
Polo G40

Worst car
I brought a new Audi A3 TDi Quattro in 2015. What a cunting piece of noisy shit that was got rid after a year or so as it gave me such a headache with its constant droning.

Wife has an Audi S1 and that is genuinely brilliant fun but I don’t think I’d want to do a long journey in it.

Yeah, potholes are a pain. I feel myself going ouch.
Other problems, :-
Having to press a button to switch off the engine cut off every time the ignition is turned on. There is no permanent override.
The mirrors don’t automatically fold in when car is locked
It’s keyless, much prefer a key.
The service record is stored in the cars computer, prefer a paper version
The Sat Nav is by subscription, tight gits.
Other than that it’s a nice car.!!

My mirrors fold when I lock the car. You need to tick the option in the vehicle settings (IIRC) to fold on lock (assuming you have folding mirrors) - by default they don’t fold on lock.

Sat nav… I might be wrong but I don’t think you need a subscription per-se but you can’t easily search for places if you don’t have connected services. When my subscription ran out I couldn’t find anything on postcode search but was “ok” if I typed address in but wasn’t a nice system to use. I have the sat nav pro and pay for the connected and map updated on mine £79 for each pack and you get 2 map updates a year over the air which is good value IMHO (Audi take note). With connected services you can also remotely set the inside temp via the app and the time you want to leave and it’ll make the car that temp for you.

I don’t mind keyless but the under boot foot wagging to open has a bit of a knack to it - but the service history is a sore point for me also. I don’t like the high beam spread it has a line but the bend around corners is good - I’d probably have gone for the upgraded lights if I’d have known. The high beam assist isn’t anywhere near as good as Audis one my last Audi - that would keep high beam on but it would fall just behind or in front of the car in front so that driver wasn’t dazzled and I had maximum illumination. Never got flashed. On my BMW I get flashed a bit. I’d hate to think how much it would have cost to fix the Audi system had it gone wrong mind!

Mileage is good on mine… combined is 39.2 and I got 39.1 on a 420 mile round trip at weekend not driving like I’d stole it but not driving like me nan either. Sticking to speed limit and using eco pro 99% of the time.

Oh and leave it in sports mode to stop the engine switching off ;)

2004 Volvo 2.4 D5 S60. Top of the range, full leather seats winter package.
It was my wife's company car. We loved it so much, when after it's three years was up and due for renewal, we bought it.
I had it a further ten years, faultless, comfortable and rapid for it's size.
Of all the many cars I have owned it's never been beaten.
I had a 53 plate V70 with the D5 unit
Dark grey leather interIor and the winter pack
Bought it as a pre registered, with 86 miles on the clock with £4k off the "new" price, £23k instead of £27k
And what a fantastic car it was

My first car was a Peugeot 207sw. It was alright, but the electrics were awful.
My current and second car is an Audi A4 B8 59 plate. 150k miles and still does 60MPG. Someone got in it the other day and said "I bet this costs a bit to run". He thought it was petrol, pretty shocked when I told him it was an oil burner.

Between me and the Mrs the other cars we have had:

Audi A3 55 plate. 178 BHP version. Fantastic car
BMW 116d. I loved it, she hated it. It wasn't fast, but did 65MPG and had mod cons.
We now have a Mini Cooper 56 reg. It's shit

Anyone on here got an M5? I’m toying with it’s the idea but would be good to know what true MPG looks like

Obviously depends how you drive it and types of journeys but from my 540i I can easily get to what BMW claim (39.2mpg) on a run. But if I drive it like I’ve stole it I’ll get low 30s or worse. So I’d say the official 28.5 is very achievable but 20 more likely if you give it beans.

Alternatively just buy a 540i and remap it… wolf in sheeps clothing… standard is 4.8secs to 62 and is AWD - remapped is another 100bhp so 62 in 3.8secs and with limiter removed probs 170mph. What’s a modern M5? 3.5secs? I appreciate the M5 looks the mutts knackers.
