Cars you have had…

Early 90s. Best car I ever had was a B reg Austin Maestro. I was playing rugby u23s grade at the time and we had played Bath. I had a matchworn top from them and was wearing it when my mates car was fucked. We took it to a garage bloke we knew on the way out on the piss somewhere. The garage bloke said nice shirt, I said cheers. Ill buy that off you he said. Looked over and there was a B reg Maestro that he had serviced for an old gripper who had snuffed it recently and his wife wanted it off the drive. Took the shirt off, drove the Maestro home and had 2 years out of it. It was so shit, I got in it one rainy day and it smelled like chips. Looked in the back seat and there were 2 empty chip wrappers and 2 condoms filled with jizz. Some twat had walked past with his bird, decided to get out of the rain by screwing my car, and nailed her twice. Respect

Full list with occasional comments:

Hillman Hunter 1725 - mainly rust but OK for first car.
Triumph 1300
MG1300
Hillman Avenger
Ford Cortina 1600 - sills were rusted to fuck
Chrysler Alpine
Ford Sierra 2.0 GL - Company car
Another Ford Sierra 2.0 GL - Company car
Triumph Dolomite 1850 HL
Vauxhall Cavalier 1600
Vauxhall Cavalier Sri - Company car
Vauxhall Cavalier CDi
Renault 5GT Turbo - Brilliant car. Went and handled like a jet powered roller skate. Not a great car to own when working in Ordsall.
Opel Kaddett - Mis-matched panels and a real shed; OK for when working in Ordsall.
Volvo 740 - Utter pile of under-powered shite.
Citroen Xantia - Very comfy.
VW Passat - Company car
Another VW Passat - Company car
Citroen Xantia
Toyota Avensis estate - Company car
Nissan Primera - The weird looking one
Jaguar S-Type 2.7
Merc C250 - 204 BHP and quite nippy, but not as refined as I'd expect.
Audi A6 Ultra - Refined as the Jag and almost as quick as the Merc. Great car until it ate it's own gearbox.
Hyundai Ioniq - Went for a hybrid as I thought any anti-motoring legislation would be aimed first at petrol or diesel cars rather than hybrid or electric.

Brilliant post mate.

I had a Montego diesel estate and folk would laugh at me overtaking them. Thing was a seven seater and someone rear ended it, completely obliterated their front end. Nothing more than a fairly minor dent on the montego as it was reinforced across the back for the extra row of seats. Great car but you had to clear out the gutter escapes to prevent rust - British Leyland obviously knew the thing was prone to rust… “hey gaffer should we put some rust proofing on these cars?” “Nah lad just put some guttering holes on it to let the water run away. Rust proofing is for them fancy Germans”.

Ford focus

MK2 escort T reg 1st time round lol
Honda concerto
Vauxhall Cavalier B reg
Mk 6 Escort
Vauxhall Zafira 04 plate
Ford Focus 03 plate

if you have a few hundred k £'s kicking about you could get an Audi Quattro swb rally car - you won't magically get Walter Rohrl's fabulous driving skills though

I don't know how more people are not killed watching the rally.

My experiences with a few Fords has been bobbins - dealers even worse. I suppose as Vauxhalls are becoming re-bodied Peugeots they may be worth a look. I have always had good experiences with Renaults, Citroens and FIAT's and ad a Skoda Superb on loan for a week which was great and currently drive a Dacia - the best value is always among the more "unfashionable" buys............

I agree with your take on the Peugeot. Got two LWB versions at work, panelling must be the bare minimum they can get away with and now all the rear doors are beginning to warp. Oh yeah, the handbrake is on the right hand side next to drivers door!! Only four years old and showing their age. But hey, that's French for ya! Expect the unexpected. Wish the boss had bought some updated Sprinters (best van I've ever driven) but they were double the cost of the Peugeots.
