Cars you have had…

When my A6 finally gave up the ghost after years of great service, I noticed that What Car suggested a C5 was a viable alternative to the usual German suspects. Yeah, not so much....turned out to be the only car I have wanted to take a branch to John Cleese style. I once had an Alfa 33 cloverleaf which had a lovely engine note but was a reliability nightmare but in comparison to the fucking Citroen it was like the worlds best constructed Toyota.

I had a fiat uno once, I spent more time pushing the car than I did driving it, after that it was VW all the way for me
I guess it all comes down to personal experience. Have an Audi S4 at the minute, had it from 6 months old, its just 3yrs old now and its had a string of problems (mostly with the flappy paddle gearbox). Yet had an A6 which had done 150k miles and never missed a beat, same with the Passat I had.

My favourite by a mile was the Škoda Yeti. Was gutted when they stopped making them. The best one (in terms of quality) I have had was an Audi SQ5.

Presently have a Volvo XC60 plug-in hybrid and Škoda Kamiq. Only had them for a couple of days but first impressions for both are pretty promising.

Had 2 Skoda Fabias since 2006. First one was bob on until the electrics went after 12 years. Bought a second one in 2018, 3 years old and not had any issue with it as of yet. Decent to drive too.

Had a 2.0 Ford Probe which was great to drive, but when things went wrong, fuck me did you pay through the nose (built for American market and parts shipped from there via Japan) £650 for a starter motor for instance (turned out to be a bit of a scam as it was only a solenoid inside that was failing) £850 for the 2.5 though.

Best and most reliable car ? An old Vectra C 1.8, brilliant car, never let me down, only ever needed to change the tyres, brake pads and an exhaust in 12/13 years, oh and the odd bulb, if I’d have taken note of comments on the internet I’d have stayed clear.

Oddly, my mechanic always said “ it’s the last good car Vauxhall ever made”, so there you go.

not sure but I bet this wins the longest thread title without capital letters or punctuation award when it is up for grabs at the end of the year in the annual bluemoon award ceremony
I read it and thankfully was lying down at the time. ;)

I had a car a good car and was told it was a good car then someone said it might not be that good but someone else says it was and not to listen to the prick then this random guy walking by says it would be economic over the years as it had great mpg and other stuff but he was in a hurry so left it there then I got a text and it was a guy I met at Butlins years ago asking if I wanted to buy a Rover and I says unless it’s a Labrador no way and he replied ok see you later and then I went for chips and the guy battering the fish says he thought his car was shite and only bought it because a guy at a bus stop said was good and we all laughed and then halfway up the road I realised I forgot to ask for pickles and had to go back but it was shut and then it started to rain I wish I had brought the car which was a Ford Granada dead old but still ok if you ignore the rust and the brown door

My old man had a fabia, bought it new in 2014. Poverty spec but it was only £11k I think, or thereabouts. It never missed a beat in 8 years. Great little car.
