Catalonian referendum

Guardiola dedicated tonight's win to the Catalan leaders that have been imprisoned by the Spanish government.

Feel a little uncomfortable with that tbh. Our club should not be used as a vehicle to express his political views, no matter how close to his heart. Do the club, all the players and all the fans agree with him ? Thin edge of the wedge imo.

My thoughts exactly. Divisive politics have no place in a European football competition, regardless of how strong he feels about the issue.

Totally agree. If Pep can spout off why not Silva. If he is like most Spaniards he is probably not in favour of Catalán independence. Perhaps KDB would like to give his view on the Walloon issue.

Voting peaceably absolutely is, a fundamental principle of democracy

Sure but not when the referendum is deemed illegal by both Spanish and Catalan law.
Also, another fundamental principle of democracy is that it rests upon the principles of majority rule.

It was a majority, quite significant

I'm sorry, I don't think you do maths too well.
A majority of votes in a 43% turnout isn't an actual majority, let alone a significant one.
And even if it was, that's beside the point. The referendum was illegal by both Spanish and Catalan law!!

Here's another interesting detail:
In 71 municipalities the number of "yes" votes tallied were more than the number of registered voters for those municipalities according to the census.

So not only was it illegal, it was poorly conducted on top of that.

When the Americans wanted independence from us, no doubt Parliament said it was illegal. In fact we went to war over it. Legality is not necessarily legitimate.
Spanish handling of this has been beyond useless. Just hope sense prevails.
