Ahhh the age old debate on smoking reaches a crescendo here, personally i dislike smoking and have done for many years. I think its a great move to ban it in public places, especially pubs and restaurants, but......each to their own and providing smokers with a safe haven (well relatively safe :-) to enjoy their coffin nails is a good PR move and it stops them from having to break the laws/rules which are now abound...

Here's a little ditty to lighten up everyones mood (hopefully)....and yes i live in the US and no i am not a 'Yank' (which is highly offensive to the people in the South by the way :-)..) but a born-n-bred Manc living in chosen exile..

BEST LAWYER/ INSURANCE STORY OF THE YEAR,
DECADE, AND POSSIBLY THE CENTURY.

This took place in Charlotte North Carolina.

A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against, among other things, fire. !!

Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these
great cigars, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company.
In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost 'in a
series of small fires..' The insurance company refused to pay, citing
the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal
fashion.

The lawyer sued and WON! (Stay with me.)

Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance
company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless, that
the lawyer held a policy from the company, in which it had warranted that
the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them
against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable
'fire' and was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the
insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the
lawyer for his loss of the cigars that perished in the 'fires'.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART...

After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him
arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!
With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous
case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally
burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a
$24,000 fine.

This true story won First Place in last year's Criminal Lawyers
Award contest.
ONLY IN AMERICA :-) !!

Why do so many people get worked up about it?

You go in for a piss - your out in 2 mins - Whats the big problem?

Your not going to contract lung cancer from it.....

It's still against the rules...

So if someone gets killed next to you...you'd just say 'I only saw it for 2 mins, it's not like I was the one who got killed, why did I get worked up about it?'

A bit extreme, I know but it's exactly the same.

Thats not the point and you know its not. Rules are rules, and it appears the people there helping enforce those rules, (the stewards), are being treated like shite of people who turn into hard men when in a pack. Get one of those smokers caught on their own by a steward and they'll be more than cooperative. Thats what gets my nose up about this subject, is the way the stewards are treated for doing the job OUR club has asked them to do. Personally as long as I could have a piss I wouldn't be arsed, but I would prefer not to have to walk into a packed toilet of people who aren't using the toilet for what its there for. Already said the spirals should be ok'd, can't really see a problem with that. The toilets though, in terms of what the rules say, are there for people to piss and shit in and if people are unable to do that because they're being used by smokers, well thats a bit of a problem don't you think? Its even more of a problem then when stewards are having abuse chucked at them and beer thrown at them. Thats just as classless as it gets. Fucking act of a shithouse too imo.
