Caught smoking in the ground

Anyone driving to work today ? polluting our planet, oh wait its ok so long as my tweed suit doesnt smell of tobacco.

The majority of vehicles now have catalytic converters - they output mostly water, CO2, nitrogen and oxygen. Added to the fact fuel isn't leaded anymore, your point doesn't amount to anything.

Having second-hand smoke on your clothes means you have toxic chemicals on your clothes - this is especially harmful to babies and young children and increases significantly the risks of cot death.

Perhaps if we didn't look for ways to improve our atmosphere we might still be breathing lead, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons from vehicles as well as all the toxic crap you choose to inhale into your lungs and cough all over the rest of us. But you can't stop progress.

you've totally missed the point I raised the ENTIRE of sports city is no smoking thats the whole area around the stadium there can be no facilities for smokers built as it stands.

Problem with your idea the entire of sportscity is a no smoking zone as it is a place of work. Cages whilst the answer cannot be built

Businesses can still provide smoking areas, they just need to be open ended and away from employee areas......not really sure where the club could put them though, apart from outside the ground and that causes issues with people leaving and re-entering the stadium constantly.

My mate got caught smoking in the family stand on Saturday. This happened at half time he wouldn't give the stewards his S/c when asked .Eventually the Police were involved and he handed over his S/c.They gave him a 3 match ban.Do you think there is any chance of this being reduced.

He's pretty gutted as it's 3 top games

Hahaha! Shame it wasn't a season long ban. Smoking in the family stand bogs! If i see it i'll be reporting it.

Regarding the provision of smoking areas, whether it be the spirals or elsewhere, for smokers. What people need to realise is this isn't Manchester City's call, we don't own the ground, we don't set the smoking regulations and we don't have any right whatsoever to change the rules. The smoking ban at COMS is a ban imposed and enforced by Manchester City Council, they have a council wide ban on smoking on ANY council property. This includes COMS. Technically Manchester City Council own the stadium and the car parks and land surrounding the stadium so, if they were being pedantic, they could actively enforce a ban on smoking outside the stadium too. It doesn't matter that outside isn't enclosed, this is Manchester City Councils own interpretation and application of Central Government law. It's their property so they can apply the law in whatever way they deem fit.[/quote]

I did write this earlier but it's seems to have been missed, there's no by-law that I'm aware of at COM's although I'm happy for anyone to show me otherwise. Yes, it is Manchester City Council policy that there is no smoking on any of their premises, but it's really the national smoke free legislation 2007 that they are bound by. You can't smoke in anywhere more than 50% enclosed, which the spirals are, so you can't smoke on them, by law, or the toilets etc. If caught the club could be prosecuted. The club could get the Council's permission to have an external smoking area(if it was less than 50% enclosed), it's only a policy, not a law and can have exceptions although I very much doubt they would keen on the idea. The very fact they let you smoke on the concourse/city square (I'm assuming you can smoke in City Square?) means they are already breaching their own policy. Policies are one thing - laws are another. It's not really got much to do with Manchester City Council - apart from because the stadium is in their jurisdiction - it's their environmental health department who should enforce the lesgislation.

The following quote was printed in the programme v Bolton after the Points of Blue meeting on the 30th April 2009.

'All of Sport City is a no-smoking area. Smoking within the stadium is against the law. People are being ejected at every game for smoking and generally receive a 3 match ban. On the spirals, Manchester City Council have said they do not regard these as 'substantially enclosed' and, while it is against the stadium rules to smoke on the spirals, it is not against the law.The council's environmental health department has declined an invitation to carry out their own enforcement'.

My brother got caught drinking in his seat at the derby last season, and he had to miss the last 2 home matches because they took his season card off him!
