Yep Di Marzio confirms. Really cocked this up if we don't get him.

I'll never get this "cocked up if we don't get him" statement. Maybe the player doesn't want to sign for us? Maybe we feel the fee or wage demands are too high? Maybe we have another target lined up... Or perhaps everyone is flapping & we have the deal concluded & the media are just guessing! Don't forget, Navas has said he agreed to join 4 months ago, maybe Cavani & our other targets did too? IMO he's ours as is Isco.
Agreed entirely. Some people on here act like we have the divine right to sign the players we want, and that if we fail to do so, it represents some kind of incompetence or lack of effort from the people in charge. Maybe Cavani doesn't want to join (not saying he doesn't, just assume he did - how could you possibly blame that on Txiki?). We already have 3 top-drawer strikers, Chelsea have zero. He'd waltz into their team, no questions asked, and based on their squad as it is at this moment, he'd have virtually zero competition or threat for his place whatsoever. Here he'd be facing competition from what's already one of the best strikeforces in Europe. If you were in Cavani's position, which option looks more attractive for you if you're looking to be a club's main man and be first choice bar none?

Mind, all it will take is for Real to decide they want him to replace Higuain and not Suarez and we'd BOTH be out of the equation.

People just need to relax and stop complaining about £100m worth of some of the most coveted players on the planet not being done and dusted in the beginning of JUNE, ffs.

Agreed with the above and I'd add that many of you are flapping uncontrollably off of a fucking tweet. Italian clubs use the media to drive negotiations all the time, the tweet means practically nothing. We already knew that Chelsea was interested in Cavani, it isn't new news that they might get him.

IMO definitely a nudge in city's direction to hurry the fuck up. Depends how desperate Chelsea are and whether they shove 63m euros under his nose tonight (if they do indeed call)

You can't use the media to drive a done deal. ADL pretty much invited us to buy him two weeks ago. Cavani has agreed our terms. We don't have a god given right to any player, but someone who by all account is happy to come and a guy who'd sell him to us.

To paint this as anything other than failing to secure a player we were offered who would join us is just saving face.

If we had paid the release clause we'd have him, ADL basically said that two weeks ago.

Makes you think if Txiki has got the Ibrahimovic to Barcelona transfer in the back of his mind, what was it 50m + Eto? That failed badly.

I know Guardiola wanted to move Messi central but still, that deal was ridiculous.

This deal is not as severe as that but I can see ADL wanting €35-40 + Edin.

"There's an interest from Chelsea. They will call me in the next few hours" - Napoli Chairman about Cavani #CFC #chelsea

I sincerely hope that we will NOT let Chelsea get Cavani. This will be Hazard all over again, difference being Cavani will have a much bigger impact.

But like most of us the club obviously feel the buyout clause is far to high so wont be held to ransom.
We won't be taken the piss out of anymore & if that means telling clubs to do one then o be it. As I said earlier, I've heard enough to believe he's already ours & ADL is playing games, maybe to help in his efforts to sign his own targets!

hmmmm

you're post is self contradictory

if we haven't offered the asking price, then surely we haven't failed we have chosen not to complete the transfer at said price

not really hard is it?

The release clause is insane. There's no reason for us to pay it. If Chelsea want to pay it, then fine, but paying whatever teams ask is stupid policy for a number of reasons. One being that it's bad negotiation, two being that it's how we end up getting quoted stupid prices all the time. The last summer was brtual, but also important, because we didn't let ourselves get abused into paying full fee for everyone. It hurt, but it will help in the long run. We could have just paid what they asked for DDR, Hazard, etc, and this year Cavani would cost us even more, etc etc. We can't get in the habit of just paying full price for the best players, it isn't sustainable and when a player like Garcia doesn't pan out, we end up needing to recoup too much money or take a massive loss.

If there is a deal done to either side, that's news to me. ADL wants full price and he's going to say what he needs to to put pressure on Chelsea and MCFC, hoping to make one blink. Cavani is a very very very good player, but I'd rather not blink. You don't win trophies for winning negotiations, but we do need to strengthen the entire squad, and paying the release clause for Cavani might prevent building the right depth for the formation of a new manager.
