The rags didn't have a world class finisher then, they do now. Chelsea didn't either (they had a declining drogba) but they will have if they get Cavani.

Aguero is world class but is not clinical at all and some people on here need to get real about this.

It amazes me how people think Aguero can be the main man in our attack,he is nowhere near clinical enough.

It amazes me how many people play football manager on their pc.

In my younger days, takes weeks to play now.

Listen Cavani is class we all know - but so is Sergio, he did not flourish under Bobby and I reckon with the right signings this summer (which we are achieving) he will knock them in next season

This is pretty pathetic.. have people seen our team? Get it go gel right and people playing to their full potential and a little luck on our side when it comes to injuries and we'll nail the league. Cavani or not!

Surely then as a city fan and as a lover of football manager then you appreciate that Aguero is actually not bad?

Bobby can be blamed for a lot of things, but strikers not taking their chances isn't one of them. I think more than new players around him, Sergio could do with a new pair of fucking boots. I've never seen a professional footballer slip over so much in my life.

Aguero had a poor season compared to his first but he still produced moments of magic ie united away and that is something Cavani will never be able to do

It's fairly obvious:

1) Cavani is going to be wanted by many clubs, but realistically only a few can afford him.

2) City and Chelsea are two clear candidates, but Real Madrid could be interested too... plus, it's not entirely impossible that a couple of other clubs might be lurking in the background.

3) Cavani fancies Spain. He's in no rush to choose now, as he and Napoli hold all the cards (so far).

4) It's now a game of poker... Napoli will want to hold out for the highest offer and hope a bidding war ensues. Their worst case scenario is that one or two of the clubs in the running pull out and buy their 'plan B' striker instead, in which case, Napoli just sell the the remaining bidder still at a very high 55M (give or take). Napoli can't really lose here.

The only safe way for City to handle this (safe in terms of not being hung out to dry) is by offering (say) 60M (or 40M + Dzeko) with a take it or leave it NOW ultimatum. If they don't take it - we move on. Otherwise, we'll be strung out all summer, and could end up not getting him anyway, with no options left (since plan B strikers have gone).

Of course, this means paying a little over the odds, but that then gives Napoli a decision to make... "twist or fold?"... once we pull out, they might not get a 60M offer thereafter, and other clubs will know City are out of the running.

The same goes for the player and his agent. 'Here's the deal, it's exceptional'... take it or leave it. Be honest with him... "it's a superb deal, you have 48 hrs to think about it. If you need more time than that, then you're not the player for us anyway".

He looks a fantastic player. But he's not Ronaldo. He's still a gamble (albeit only a slight one IMO).
I agree , this is the way to go.

I think you will find we have already done that regarding Cavani - Napoli & de laurentis already know what we have offered for the player.

If he wants more which it seems he does, we will not pay it.

I don't think we have. I suspect we may have sounded some ideas with Napoli, and even possibly met the asking price, but that's not the same as paying a little over the odds with a 'Take it or leave it' offer.

It's one thing for Napoli want (say) 53M and we offer something a little short of that, and possibly by way of a player swap too, it's quite another to say "ok, 60M and you do the deal this week, or forget it".

THAT turns the tables in City's favour, effectively forcing Napoli's hand.

Of course, it seems there's a fly in the ointment. Napoli is like Manchester... it's not really the top choice of destinations for players to go to. It's probably not attractive to Dzeko or Tevez for that matter, and we won't want to spend 60M without being absolutely assured of offloading one of those two - we've been down that road before!. Both Tevez and Dzeko can refuse to move if they so wish.

I suspect Chelsea are in a similar position... they want to offload too before spending 50M+ (most likely Torres).

Even Real Madrid are in the same boat.

But still... straight cash, right now.... it's a very compelling argument, and I believe it's a risk worth taking for Cavani (I truly think he's what we need up front). But still... the Tevez/Dzeko issue remains.

At last, some sanity.

Aguero needs a foil, not a superstar next to him
