Census 2021

No idea why people are completing it early as it's a very simple instruction.

Because you can fill it in at any time and then amend up to Sunday. For most people, there won’t be any expected changes in the next two days (or longer if they filled it in earlier).

I honestly find the results interesting. Like I do football attendances.

I like to know daft things like population increase or decreases over time. How many people love in Manchester compared to Birmingham, our population increase ratios compared to other countries... Birth rates, deaths rates...

I’m even interested in things like our obesity numbers (27.8% of the UK is obese [ProCon]); our ageing population (12m of our country are over 65, 2.8m are over 80 [statista]); our poor diets and lack of nutrition (3m people in the UK are classed as malnourished [British Dietetic Association]); although ever falling, the numbers of smokers we have (6.9m are estimated to be smokers in this country [Office for National Statistics]); our problem with sedentary lifestyles (20m... yes, TWENTY MILLION!.. adults in the UK are inactive [British Heart Foundation]); and the amount of people classed as vulnerable through ill-health (2.2m are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable alone in the UK [Office for National Statistics]).

I find all of this sort of facts and figures important to understanding why we have the death rate we’ve had with Covid, for example. I think it’s all important with knowing where govt spending needs to be concentrated. Also where citizens need to take greater responsibility for their own lifestyles and stop being an unnecessary drain on the NHS...
Me too. I find it all fascinating and it's good to have the knowledge for future debates and all that.
I'm interested in the religious results. That one's gonna be interesting ...recent surveys have found that only 10% of the UK actually consider themselves "religious", yet, I bet people still put "Catholic" or "CoE" just because it's like tradition. It will be a lot more than 10% with the census, I think.

Done ours as I know no one will be staying over cause of lockdown etc. I get quite excited by the census as it makes me feel I am playing a part in essential resource planning for the nation.

I worked on the last one, all people need to be accounted for, illegals included, the govt cannot access the data and raid the property, or anything like that. The census is simply to ascertain all numbers, their ethnicity etc; for infrastructure and services provision.
I would imagine that many illegals avoid it thru fear.

I would imagine that many illegals avoid it thru fear.
If they're illegal, they will be fearful despite the census, as they can be
detained by immigration at any time, if found, but I get your point.
It was the job of census officials to reassure all people, wherever possible,
that completion does not mean any branch of authority, can access their data, it's totally secure and is purely for planning purposes, although some don't comply, I agree.
Many people who outright refuse are followed up, and will be fined and made to comply, and there are very good reasons for this. It's no good complaining that there is only one doctors surgery, or playing field, school, dentist or any any other service in your area if the govt is under the impression that only 10,000 people reside there and there are really 20,000, for example.
So just complete the form, it helps, and will never result in a knock on the door with some copper waving it at you and asking you to accompany him to the station.

It asked about national identity (i.e. how you identify yourself). I'm pleased to say that, after a moment or two thinking about it, under "other" it accepted "Citizen of nowhere". I do hope like "Jedi Knight" for religion, enough people do it to register interest.
