both mangala and benatia are over priced if were looking at spending some thing like 30-40 million pounds on a defender we should be looking at players like hummels, ramos, thiago silva, verane, subotic, koscielny or pique despite his drop in form , not a defender who has a couple full seasons in the portugusse league and is playing second fiddle to sakho for france , benatia has more experience and to me is better but it's ridiculous how one good season in a lesser league adds 20+ million to a players value.
both are risks at that price and if that's the case i'd much rather see us go for someone with more champions league experience someone who knows the demands of playing for a top club in a top european league , there are a lot of capable defender's we could take a risk on for a lot less like inigo martinez, rami, garay, ferdrico fazio, agger, toby alderweireld or pepe . at the start of last season would any one have thought paying 30+ for mangala or benatia was good business? so why is it now? porto had one of there worst season defensively and trophy wise in year's and despite roma's good season they didn't come close to winning anything, they keep mentioning roma's great defensive record this season but juventus had a better one does that make Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini or Cáceres worth 30+ million.

Koscielny was one of the EPL best CB's last year and currently is much better then Mangala in my opinion. He knows the league, he has plenty of champions league experience and is also entering his peak. He would have been a perfect partner for Kompany and wouldn't have cost anywhere near what Porto want for Mangala. Mangala would be a huge gamble 40 mil is more the PSG paid for Thiago Silva.

Why? I think he's a hell of a player. Has pace and has played in some big games for Madrid. has looked very good for France while Mangala is sitting on the bench. not sure what it would take to get him but it can't be as bad as what Roma and Porto are asking.

Why are we not in for this guy? Miranda has a 24mil buy out clause, so he'd be cheaper than Managla and Benatia and fill a big need...He had a great season for Atletico last year......

Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda is on the brink of signing for Manchester United.

AS says Miranda is joining United this summer - and a deal is "almost complete."

The Brazilian centre-back starred for Atleti last season, as they won La Liga and reached the final of the Champions League.

But now he looks set to leave the Vicente Calderon, and United will reportedly be his destination.

Because he is essentially 30 years old, with a pretty patchy career untill Simeone came along and got the Atelti side working together like mentalists. I think a lot of people are going to hideously overpay on Atleti players only to discover that they aren't nearly as good when not in that specific system, all fighting for one another under Simeone.
