Champions League pots

The problem we will have is that we have to defend 20 points next season. Get any less than that and we go backwards for the 14/15 competition.
Lets be honest for a second. We were diabolical in Europe this season, despite all 3 teams being good we should never of been out of the comp like that and because we were it will cost us for the next 4 years

dortmund and madrid are much more than good

Ajax are and were a beatable team though, to take 1pt from two games against them was appalling considering our vast resources. They had sold Vertonghen (to Spurs), Van Der Wiel (to PSG), and Anita (to Newcastle) from the squad they had the previous season too, when Guidetti scored a hat-trick against them. De Boer tactically outclassed Mancini and his players were more motivated, ours were quite arrogant thinking they could stroll through the match.

We defo need to get past the group stages next season as a priority. If we don't we will end up with being placed in the group of deaths nearly every season.

Although it makes good viewing and builds up the interest in our club I just hope the group will not be as strong as the last one.

United lost at home to Cluj and away to Galatsary but because they had got enough points to qualify it didn't matter. The other team in their grioup was Braga, who finished bottom. I don't think Cluj and Galatasary will be classed in the same bracket as Real and Dortmund, or indeed as Ajax. City would have qualified from United's group even if United were replaced by Barcelona (pot 1) and we replaced the pot 2 team. We were not playing particularly well in the autumn but well enough to come through against those teams. United struggled in all their games but the opposition simply wasn't good enough. Similarly arsenal, a side not as good as City, but who faced a very good German side, but then Montpellier (or what was left of their title winning team) and Olympiakos.

Ajax certainly proved to be a great deal better than the competition for United and Arsenal.

The advantage seeding gives is that pot 1 teams are protected from the present giants of European football Real, Barca and Bayern. But United ans Arsenal seem to have perennial good luck in the pots 2, 3 and 4 teams they draw. City haven't so far but it may be different next time... There is no reason we should have a group of death every season, unless....

After the draw is made for next seasons Champs league we lose 20 points so its important we have a good campaign next time out

If the squad is good enough the pot doesn't matter. This season we weren't good enough!

Last 2 years we got Bayern and Madrid, if we were in pot 1 we couldn't get them, saying that were years from pot 1<br /><br />-- Tue Feb 19, 2013 4:08 pm --<br /><br />

Are you saying Ajax have a better squad than us?

People sometimes underestimate how experience can go a long way
