It's hard to see the wisdom in the Caballero transfer at all now.

Lets not go crazy. It's more than possible this is based on his injury record instead of Bony being "Bony, the record striker last season".
He can't expect to be injured for the best part of 18 months, score only few goals and still make the lineup. Besides these are special circumstances are our squad is limited for the season with the FFP ruling. Under normal circumstances both Jov and Bony would make the team.
So I don't think it's harsh at all and that he'll understand this, talented as he is. Maybe MP made a special deal with him that he would start more league games in return or it's also possible that he's lined up to be part of a Pogba deal.
