Charlie McNeil

We've struggled to produce decent forwards so this seems a real blow

Delap is only a few months older and is a better prospect.

I’ve got no issues with kids leaving us for whatever reason, but if he’s claiming it’s because he didn’t play for the U18’s enough that’s a bit of a crap reason as a) he was only 15 when the season started and b) he’d presumably be first choice for the U18’s this season when Delap moves to the EDS.

Has he said that?

What pathway does he want?
United ain’t gonna play him are they
With their forwards

he was told he wont go beyond the U18s...........i would say he is more than capable of going further.
he decided to try his luck elsewhere, you cant blame him for that.
personally,imo.....you dont tell a 16 year old kid that, esspecially one who has bagged 600 plus goals, many of them above his age group.
i'd sooner of kept him and seen how he developed.

Was he given any specific reason for their decision ?

Does seem odd and (as you say) a bit harsh.

Do they have everything mapped out with that much detail and belief for the future? At least they were honest with him which is a good thing as he can plan for his future.

No mate.....How a CERTAIN person can tell U18s is maximum,i dont know.....esspecially at 16.
I'm probably misunderstanding this, but what's so bad about telling a 16 year old that u18s is a max? Surely when he reaches 17/18 then he can think about having even a 5% chance of first team football?

I think you misunderstand, Spider is saying that he's been told that City believe he won't progress beyond the U18s full stop with us.

Unless of course it's me misunderstanding ;)

Ah ok, if that is the case then yeah you've got to think to yourself whats the point in staying?

Just my opinion mate...just think it would be better with certain kids to say nothing and see how they develop.
As i posted earlier he had a lot of very good offers.....some from clubs bigger than where he is going......people from home and abroad see summat in him.

So was he told he had no future with us full stop after u18s as centurions thought?

Well if it's true he's going to the rags then at least he can use them as a stepping stone until a bigger club comes along.

He officially left 6-7 weeks ago. Looked like he was going to RB Leipzig, but have been quiet on that front for long now. He was a rag even when he was playing here, so I would not be surprised if he joined the rags
I spoke to his Dad about three weeks ago and he hadn’t left then. He also told me that he wouldn’t be going abroad and that the RB Leipzig stuff was nonsense. He said that if he was to move he had had offers from teams in the Premier league but he didn’t mention United.

Never mentioned them to me either to be honest.
Just said they were sitting down as a family and gonna decide whats best for Charlie.

That doesn’t seem fair how do City know he won’t improve.
