Chelsea (A) Post Match Thread

I think it'd be hilarious if the Dippers went unbeaten all season, but we hit 100 points again and easily won the title. It'd clearly demonstrate how meaningless that record is without a title to go with it. Candle sales would go through the roof.

couldnt watch the match as i was working, only saw highlights and such but what i tool away from them was that city had a couple good chances that they couldnt take - aguero absence was felt and that the corner that gives chelsea the second goal was a phantom corner, didnt see any deflection.

All things considered, it sucks to lose and you guys arent used to it at all anymore :p but stuff happens, the defense does seem to be slipping a bit, any special reasons why? The season is long though and im sure you will improve when de bruyne and kun come back

9 times out of 10 CFC would lose playing that way but they scored with their first attack after 45 mins and that made it very difficult. Sometimes easier to play counter-attacking game but basically it's an admission of inferiority
Spot on. If Kante's shot's a foot higher, it hits the bar, we go in 0-0 having absolutely dominated the first half and it's very likely we win the game. Chelsea have a lot of quality players and if you take your foot off their throat, they can hurt you, like all the top 6 sides (even United showed this at the Etihad last season). I give them credit for playing pretty well in the second half, but we still dominated for longer periods, even in that half. In the second half alone we had 60% possession, 13 shots (they had 11) and 9 corners (they had 1).

The momentum graph from Sofascore (below) shows just how dominant we were - they had only two sustained periods of control in the entire match (green bars). It's easy to be negative after a bad result like this, and there's a temptation to just concede that we weren't good enough. That's not to say that we didn't have issues (actually putting the ball in the net, for instance), but we weren't anywhere near as bad as some are suggesting - in fact, there was a lot to like.

Pretty dejected after the loss mainly because we missed a couple of golden chances and went behind to a sucker punch goal having dominanted for so long.

What's done is done, hopefully it will give the boys a good wake up call if they needed one. I feel we should be looking at 3rd striker option in the summer along with a back up for dino and mendy.

Much as I'd hate Liverpool to win anything it has to be preferable to the rag bastards winning it. Not that it'll happen!

I still believe we'll win the title, scousers haven't had too many tough games yet, except us and but for Mahrez's shit pen they'd have lost that. They'll drop points soon, even the rags might get a draw there; they always raise their game for the history boys' derby.

We'll get back to winning ways against Everton, especially with Sergio and KdB back soon.

Head. Sand.

They’ve had pretty much identical fixtures to us, in as much as we’ve both played Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal away, and they’ve had a tougher Chimps League group than us. We’ve certainly had worse luck than them with injuries, but why City fans continue to delude themselves that the dippers are going to suffer a post-Christmas collapse, I do not know. Their Achilles Heel was their defence and their susceptibility to teams going route one. In Van Dyke, Gomez and two quick full backs they’ve largely fixed that problem. I said some time ago we’ll need 95 points or more to win it this season and that remains the case.

And I’d even dispute your first point. The dippers are such utterly despicable cnuts (RAWK makes Sad Cafe look like the Oxford University Debating Society), I’m at the point where I’d rather the rags won the league than those self-reverential, self-righteous bastards

We dominated first half without taking our chances , why no one was on the post for a corner is beyond me.We were always going to lose a couple of games so at least we got one out of the way .Have no doubt Liverpool are going to push us all the way,no sign of them slowing down

Completely agree. It is a tough game and we should have been leading after 44mins but fell behind. A tough ask to go and win there without De Bruyne and Aguero, the latter was missed and would have got a goal in the first half.

However, you also don't win any game when so many players play poorly. Particularly Silva and Bernardo. The team relies on their skill and control and they were poor. Chelsea defended well and the title race is on.

There's a long way to go still and it will chop and change. Our reaction is key. Everton is another tough game and Pep has to rotate for the CL this week regardless of the fact we haven't won the group yet. Fernandinho needs a rest as do many others. We need to be playing one team for the CL game and league cup and resting players for their league commitments.

Talk about Liverpool's squad all you want but they are coping. Sturridge and Origi got key goals at Chelsea and in the dipper derby. Henderson, Milner, Keita, Fabinho and Wijnaldum might lack quality when compared to us but they have energy and intensity and do all that work to unleaah their attacking players. They can cope with this busy run. Can Ferny, Silva and Bernardo? Most of us see Gundogan playing as more often than not a decline in our balance and until De Bruyne is back these games will start to hurt those three midfielders who have been key so far. Our play relies on their quality and it is time Pep rested Ferny despite the risk to winning the group on Wednesday, he is too important to play any game he isn't 100% required.

If we can find a DM in Jan we need to get one. That and the return of Aguero and De Bruyne will be a huge boost. Going to be an exciting title battle! We still have the better chance because the dippers have the years of failure hanging over them and will definitely start to feel that.
