Chelsea Thread 2013/14 (continued)

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech declares himself fit to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg according to Sky Sports.

Cech, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the first leg, was a surprise participant in Chelsea's training session at Cobham today after he was ruled out for the rest of the season by Jose Mourinho in the wake of his injury.
Either Jose was bullshitting about the extent of the injury or Cech is tougher than Zaba. I'm going for the former.

Schurrle says their critics are jealous: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/28/andre-schurrle-chelsea-win-double-jose-mourinho" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... e-mourinho</a>

I know they (Chelsea) are well liked and sympathetic on here, but even your coach doesn't have much love for them. Didn't he make some comments the other day sort of implying that it wouldn't be "ideal" if destructive or anti-football teams won the league?

And on this topic--I think people are getting something mixed up.

There's defensive. And then there's cynical. Or calling other coaches losers or having your players regularly surround the referee. I think it's the cynical part that turns people off someone decent and honorable like Pellegrini

This, so much. I don't understand the general warm feeling Chelsea seems to elicit on this forum. Is it because they've followed a similar business model to City? That doesn't seem a strong enough reason. I don't City fans should field any affinity towards Chelsea. You are a decent, respectable club, whereas they are a shower of sewage mixed with toxic waste. Chelsea defended very well at Anfield, but on top of that they rolled around on the floor, they play-acted, they kicked the ball away- now I understand there must be a degree of time-wasting in such situations and any team would engage in it to some extent, but that degree of cynicism was just disgusting to watch. You can hold on to a narrow lead and defend resolutely without resorting to such dismal antics. Especially when you have one of the most expensively assembled squads in the world.

I find Chelsea an utterly despicable and repulsive club. This has nothing to do with 'parking the bus' or playing negative football. I don't believe there's any one 'right' way of playing the game, every manager and every club must find their own way. I'll admit that my loathing for them stems largely from our failure to beat them in the recent past, but I'd like to point out that this is a club who's players nonchalantly punch fellow professionals in the face (Ramires) as well as threaten and execute violence against ballboys (Mourinho and Hazard respectively). Not to mention that they are captained by John Terry. Only Spurs and United do I hate more.

EDIT: And also they are managed by Mourinho, who for all his success is a vile human-being.

The 'warm' feeling from City fans comes from them displacing the Rags from their perch about ten years ago.

Ah, thanks for shedding some light. Although they weren't entirely successful were they? You guys had to finish the job.<br /><br />-- Tue Apr 29, 2014 10:07 pm --<br /><br />

Chelsea are better liked partly due to some success in stopping United dominating even more a few season s ago.
And on the whole, their fans aren't as big a bunch of gobby twastards.

Now that is really interesting. Amongst Arsenal fans, Chelsea fans are generally considered the lowest level of gobby twastard there is, only slightly higher than Spurs fans. Funny how that works. I know that gunners have a fairly bad rep around here, I've seen some post that they hate Arsenal fans even more than the rags, which I found kind of shocking.

Got to say that whilst Mourinho pisses us all off at times, Rodgers has become the prime target for abuse and deservedly so. He has started to talk about Liverpool and their ability as if they have owned and dominated football for the last 20 years. He has been spurred on by the media love in from all the former dipper players but he has been so cringeworthy and cuntish. Do it for the 96 in the clouds. Are you fucking kidding me? If I was related to one of those poor people I'd have slapped the twat. He's got no ties to Liverpool other than the fucking wage slip in his pocket and then he spouts that load of bollocks, forgetting they won it the year after Hillsborough and should be more respectful given the stature of the event.

Mourinho parking two buses, I hope one was up his arse. Liverpool have fucked us all off with their display of self-righteousness. I have not seen anything on this scale before. The rags are at least less arrogant despite their high proportion of dick head fans, but Liverpool have been ridiculous. Schurrle is right, you just have to win the game and Mourinho knew that was his sides best chance. Whilst I don't like Chelsea's negative style, they will play with more attacking instinct when they sign a striker and although Mourinho has been hypocritical about spending etc, he is so clearly full of crap as with his comments about Terry and Cech being out for the season.

interesting read from the telegraph about jose's philosophy of how his teams play.

According to the Spanish journalist Diego Torres in a recent book, Jose Mourinho’s attitude to possession at Real Madrid was summed up thus.
1. The game is won by the team who commits fewer errors.
2. Football favours whoever provokes more errors in the opposition.
3. Away from home, instead of trying to be superior to the opposition, it's better to encourage their mistakes.
4. Whoever has the ball is more likely to make a mistake.
5. Whoever renounces possession reduces the possibility of making a mistake.
6. Whoever has the ball has fear.
7. Whoever does not have it is therefore stronger.
This is tiki-taka’s direct nemesis: not necessarily anti-football, but definitely anti-something.

I find their fans much more tolerable than the arse, the rags and this season, the dippers.

Because a decade ago Roman bought Chelsea and I saw united fans go apeshit. They were a threat to them and I near pissed myself. Bar the odd time they proper twatted us or Maureen mithered the press I kinda don't mind them.

When we got taken over that's when the big bad wolf blew the house down with the rags.
