You can avoid (or at least limit) haggling over fees by overpaying their market value, which I would fully endorse. We're back in the CL as top seeds, so we'll be negotiating from a much more attractive position, even if Hazard leaving hurts that attractiveness quite a bit.

Good question. God knows - apparently we can't appeal to CAS without FIFA issuing the club with the official document on the charges and why the initial appeal was rejected. For some reason, FIFA have delayed in issuing that document, and tbh it does feel a bit like they're taking the piss out of the club.

Hadn’t realised you became top seeds, too. Then again, so too are Zenit; how did that happen?

Will Sarri definitely remain? His situation presumably needs to be clarified to targets if they are to commit. So, the longer the ban hangs over the club and Sarri’s position remains unclear, the harder it might be to attract top players. Sounds like FIFA recognises that deliberate delaying is, in fact, an indirect form of punishment, one which can have a significant impact on a club’s signings and stability, and one against which there is presumably no appeal.

By all accounts, Chelsea operate independently from the manager and will sign players regardless. With their turnover in managers it seems the best way.

When viewed in terms of turnover, I suppose that make sense, but when viewed from a player’s sense of security and type of football expected, that could be less sensible.

Not sure how Zenit have squeezed in there, but we would have been #2 seeds had we not won the EL last night, so winning it did carry some importance for us beyond just beating Arsenal.

Sarri's situation remains unclear. Juve are in heavy pursuit of him, and my gut feeling is Sarri would like to join them - which is understandable considering it's a bigger and better club and he'll never be appreciated at Chelsea. I think Chelsea aren't bothered either way - he's shown he deserves to be trusted, but he's also failed completely to quell the fan unrest and have been taken by surprise by just how deeply unpopular he is with the fans.

You're spot on though, the lack of clarity on that front could hinder our ability to make the moves we need.

Feel for him. He's done well adapting the squad he has to his style and having it win a European trophy. However, to win the League with that style, I suspect he'd need to have retained all his best players, Hazard especially, and added 4-5 players with the heart and skill to do the running.

When we defeated his Napoli, home and away, that was in his third year there, and while the games were tight and enormously fun to watch, I always sensed we just had more better players, particularly off the bench, to turn the tide in our favour. Similarly, when a goal down or one player is not putting the shift in, his system begins to look incredibly fragile.

To what do you attribute the underappreciation and unrest?

I don't know. I think it started at Christmas, when fans were frustrated by his refusal to give Hudson-odoi any meaningful minutes, who subsequently handed in a transfer request. This was all playing out to the backdrop of the team going through a period of terrible form.

Sarri then exacerbated the situation when he was asked about Hudson-Odoi's England debut in Montenegro and he said "he didn't watch it he just saw some highlights". It came across as not being bothered enough to check him out.

Ok.so what is your own personal view on Sarri? And apologies if you have prev made this known.
I just think you d be nuts to wave goodbye to a man who plays such progressive football and can, quite clearly ,deal with pressure.

I have advocated against letting him go, but I wont shed any tears for him he leaves. I think just about sums up my feelings.

Also think conceding 4 in the first 20 minutes against us at The Etihad didnt help him either. It's up there with the worst away performances I've ever seen at home
