Did he do a bad job? Did you expect anything other than relegation for Burnley?Kompany being linked with Chelsea and Bayern Munich is incredible considering how bad of a job he did this season with Burnley
That Burnley side kompany inherited was heavily tipped for a back to back relegation when they went down after selling everybody worth more than a quid, kompany had no right getting them up straight away with the squad they had.
He spent a decent wedge and you can argue he didn't change it when things weren't working for him when he should have and that would be a fair criticism but he stuck to what he wants to be as a manager and they became a lot more competitive towards the end of the season. had it clicked half a dozen games sooner for them they'd have had every chance of staying up. He did a competent job with what he had to work with.
There's also the Pep effect. There's a clamor right now for every club to bring in somebody that's had even the smallest of pep influence.
