Chris Wilder criticises perceived bias from officials

No one at Sheffield United were complaining when the ref and var allowed them to play a mix of Rugby and WWE v us esp at set pieces which should have resulted in 2 penalties but without him naming the referee who told him that and it has some truth, v Dippers (them again) at 0-0 a clear trip by VVD for their opening goal yet ignored by the ref and var it sounds like excuses

“Hopefully he enjoyed his sandwich whilst talking to a PL manager”

Are people not allowed to eat in your presence Chris?

Anyway not for much longer, you plonker.

Yeah, irrespective of whether there's validity to his claims (quite possibly) coming out with a sentence like that makes him sound like a bit of a dickhead and probably isn't going to help him with assistant refs who see someone on maybe 10 to 20 times what they earn giving it the billy big bollocks.

Fans but this is a manager?
It's an open conversation with Liverpool fans as well, they are just as convinced it's corrupt against them as you are that it's corrupt against us, the below isn't untypical.

The difference being that fans of every other club are all in agreement that it's biased in favour of Liverpool

Even fans of other London clubs were siding with Chelsea over the penalties they didn't get.

Of course fans of all teams feel hard done by at times, and things do against every team at some point..

But when fans of pretty much every club are all voicing the same view that Liverpool are getting helped out by officials, there's probably something to it.

The bigger question is WHY cant refs be questioned, why do they sit protected by the powers that be, we question players, question managers but refs seem to be beyond that.

Refs are human and they make mistakes, but they are paid to do a job and are therefore not above reproach, take that liverpool game midweek, why cant tierney and oliver be asked why they have chosen not to give those penalties to chelsea but given the one to liverpool, why can their interpretation of the rules not be questioned publicly?

That's what annoys me.

Its something I've always wanted in boxing too. We know it's rife with bent judges. Why not make them have to explain their scorecards after fights and how they justify their card. I reckon we would see a lot more sensible decisions if these dodgy fuckers didn't get to slope off after robbing a fighter and not have to answer it.

Should do the same with footy. Let officials explain their decisions, or at least just VAR decisions. It would obviously go too far to go over a full game, but why not VAR decisions?

It doesn't mean you have to trying to rumble them or trip them up, its just for a clearer understanding, otherwise we can only assume they're bent.

OK, so visit literally any other clubs forum and you will find accusations of corruption against them and only them (or sometimes collectively as "smaller clubs") that are broadly similar as anyone else's forum.
The reason I brought Liverpool into it was that another poster (on page 1) said bias was an open conversation from all fans APART from Liverpool, suggesting they don't discuss it because they know the bias is for them and only them when in actual fact they believe it's just as corrupt against them as any other fan believes.
The media is biased towards Liverpool (for commercial reasons) and this creates a pressure on all referees. They know if they get a decision wrong they will be slaughtered by the media. This is compunded by the huge LFC PR machine which amplifies any mistake (look at the Paris CL Final ticketing shambles).
Too many referees are weak and cowardly so they take the least line of resistance and make decisions which don't expose them to as much media criticism. It is not corruption in the sense of officals being paid bribes (though that has probably happened on isolated occasions) but it is a big cultural problem for PGMOL.
The media are a big part of the problem. Some decisions are ignored but those impacting on the bigger clubs(the lucrative ones for broadcasters) are always highlighted. That's why some people in the media are mocking Chris Wilder for telling the truth. The releationship between some journalists and some club managers is too cosy and this also leads to biased coverage.

This sportswashing thing has always aggravated me its a term invented to sound like arabs are in some way inherently corrupt and the usa and russia etc are in some ways bastions of fairness and moral superiority, most countries have their shady dealings and shame and most if not all have blood on their hands, sportswashing is complete bullshit and should be called out for what it is and the simple fact is that when you say a country is sportswashing you are saying money is okay as long as it doesnt come from arabs, its a nice term for racism and thats all it is.

Sportswashing is definitely a thing….

You’ve only got to look at the nation that’s had 4 summer Olympics, 4 Winter Olympics & about to have its 2nd World Cup & always comes up smelling of roses.

The thing is we all know what goes on and what the Premier League officials are capable of doing if 1 or 2 clubs that play in red need a result to boost their standing in the table, Even the mighty Manchester City has faced the devil on many occasions and lost the plot, Many times Pep has said we never ask or want help from anybody and Manchester City win silverware and titles the right way,

all it take is a search on Youtube and go and watch some of the most fixed games in the Premier League history
UTD vs Arsenal and Mike Riley the match referee, then you realize how UTD won 13 Premier League titles under Fergie, also, UTD went 6 seasons without giving a pen away at OT.

I agree with most everything Wilder said about bias. Bit I think he undermined his own credibility by then ranting on about a sandwich. He then just sounded like an angry Yorkshireman who didn’t like losing, and his valid point was lost. Shame.

Always have to smile when posters say here or on the VAR thread that all fans think there is injustice towards their club. Of course they do. It's what being a fan is all about. If you aren't doing that, you aren't doing it right. But it doesn't make it right.

The above post gets it right though, imho. If you asked a sample of all fans which clubs get the most favourable treatment, I would be very surprised if it didn't go something like United at home, Liverpool at home, Liverpool away, United away and then the rest.
