City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

If I was in charge of the ticket office I would do a slight shuffle of the seats every season straight after the window for renewing has closed.
I would close up all the gaps and yes I know some people think the seat is “theirs” but what they really want is to be sat with the same people arond them, and I’d maintain that with the shuffle.
This then will open up swathes of tickets in groups rather than singles, then do another shuffle after taking on new seasoncard holders.

Back in the day, I know I’m old, I used to go to gigs at the free trade hall. They had a print out of the seating plan and when you bought a ticket they crossed that seat off. But you had to buy the seat next to someone else and they filled the rows from the middle out.
Sounds a good idea but unless they were linked by freinds and family you could end up suffling some fans one way and others they sit with another way. Something needs to be done though and maybe your shuffling can be done but then those seats need to be ringfenced or fans will just relocate back.

I’d could come and sit next to you and make friends! Let’s hope it happens. I like you second idea as well - there is not enough flexibility. I never know which kids want to come to the match with me and it’s a complete pain getting us all together at times.
I think that’s why people can’t sell their tickets on the exchange.
A dad/mum thinks, ahhh little xxx is with me this weekend, I think I’ll take them to the match to see the champions.

“Hello Manchester City’s excellent ticket office I’d like two tickets for me and my ten year old to go to the game this week?”.

Of course sir/madam, that’ll be £70 plus £5 booking fee. You have one ticket in block 103 and one in block 304. Don’t worry though you’ll be right behind one another.

“Piss off, I’m taking them to Disney on Ice instead”

What evidence do you have that single seats are unsold?

The guy next to me is a London season ticket holder. Sometimes he doesn't come. Each time he's sold it. A bit anecdotal perhaps, but you might be assuming they are unsold when in fact they are? Burnley home game was sold out weeks in advance with exception of a turnover on Ticket Exchange. When I walked past on match day about an hour before KO, Ticket Office window's said it was 'Today's Match Sold Out.'

Me personally?? I think if I put it up for sale, the match is over and it doesn't say sold or I don't receive notification it has sold means it hasn't.

Once the shuffling is done I would allow them to relocate, but their seat has now probably been taken by someone who understands what you are trying to do and don’t move.
Therefore your relocated seat may be worse off. Plus I’d do the second shuffle after relocations to release the single seats again.

As to the shuffle, it is only to remove gaps, so you will still sit in the same relative positions to the people on your row.

Some s/ c holders may not even realise they have been shuffled. I bought 2 tickets for the Huddersfield game seperated by one seat. We were in early and sat together when the middle seat owner turned up I was planning to ask him to swap. Anyway he turned up and sat in the empty seat without being asked. He then spent the game chatting to us and his neighbours who he knew well. Anyway end of the game he said see you next week this has been my lucky seat for a few years. I replied we just bought match day but I was in his seat , he hadn't even realised. So I assume for other games he has been sitting in his own seat next to different people seperated from those mates he chats with. And boy did he chat.
Not really sure what point I was making now.

I really think the north stand will be put back for 4 or 5 years who knows more. I looked at and backed up every business reason to extend the north stand but after Saturday game Vs Burnley the owners will have realised. Not that the expansion hinged on this game but it brings it home.

Saturday was a 3pm KO, fantastic weather, not played a game for a while, top of the league, chance to see a few goals going in the net. It looked like the poorest home PL attendance so far this season ! I have not seen as many empty seats in 115 ss for a while at a home PL game, this isn't the corporate stand or family stand it is where we sing and is generally packed. All around the stadium you could see spare seats. I imagine the Fulham cup game will have a low attendance, lets see how the next CL home game is ( last one Vs Lyon wasn't full by a long way ).

If the stadium isn't full for what ever reason on a Saturday 3pm KO when we are top of the league, the owners wont invest to increase capacity.
Maybe, as happened to me before Saturday, I put my lads adult ticket on exchange site. He was happy when there was no available tickets left on Saturday knowing his ticket had been sold. How wrong could you be, about two hours before kick off received an email saying they were unable to sell ticket.
You can't sell something if nobody knows your selling it.
