City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

I went to a music concert the other night. The music was great ,the audience mixed ages but predominantly 50+. When urged to stand, clap, sing, join in -half the people just sat on their arses staring at the stage or their phones. Its the new phenomenon of crowds a) sitting down =not engaged, b)easily distracted by phones, refreshments etc= watching a match is like being at the cinema where you sit and get entertained but are not expected or wanted to join in.

Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran have a lot to answer for!
More Motley Crue than Spandau for me though didnt mind Duran Duran. I agee though my son goes and has become a fan because we went together but many of his friends cant understand why he travels from Scotland to Manchester for games when it's on the telly, because a lot have never been to games when they were younger.

For me a lot of the apathy set in when it became almost impossible for new young fans to get to away games.
That is where the real craic is.
When they go to aways regularly they soon get hooked.
Before anyone with thousands of points gets on my case I know you earnt them, but there is no easy answer.
Years ago I spent about 6 seasons travelling to every away game with Leve blues.
Bill Black always found ways to get tickets for new younger fans that was their way in.
That route seems blocked now.
Following City when we were shit seemed easier you just needed a thick skin.
I don't want to go back btw but the Atmosphere with Leve blues was special.
I accept those days have gone forever and I am glad I'm not looking to replicate those days.
I just accept empty seats sold or otherwise are just the present day reality.

What’s had a huge impact on that is the big local away ends at the likes of Blackburn, Wigan and Bolton where you’d get 5-7000 tickets and it’d be raucous!

Or when we were at our best from around 1998-2003 (most of that was before the Loyalty Points system came in, might I add!) when we would get the whole end (4-6000) at places like both Sheffield clubs, West Brom, Birmingham, Boro, Preston, Palace, Cov, Forest, Stoke (where if we played them in the Prem we’d just get 3000)...or taking up 30% of a whole stadium at places like Crewe and Walsall.

Now it’s harder to get away tickets as away ends in the last five years hold about 750-3000 maximum. Then with the the Loyalty Points system joined with the club giving more to corporates, it’s all ruined our away support.

In the last four or five years it’s been amazing how quiet we are away from home! And very noticeable that it’s all grey and balding heads, women, kids, geeks and the odd lads. The big groups and coach loads of lads has disappeared. There are some younger ones but not in the massive groups we used to get.

Never mind the empty seats or early leavers at home games, our away support has fallen off a cliff. We had a better away support before the Loyalty Points system came in with a greater range of fans going to more games in greater numbers.

That block where these burnley fans are, was actually empty at the start of the game, they moved over to it to be closer to the home fans, presumably for some banter, I would say that the third level away fans was about 2/3 full at most, so probably about 2200 travelled the 29 miles.

Also their own stadium holds just under 22000, and they had just over 18500 for the visit of Bournemouth, just 20500 for Huddersfield, and 18800 for Watford.

Dont go to away games never really have, but it always sounds ok to me on the telly.

My own comments on that site was that they didn’t even sell out 3000 tickets at £30 a few miles down the road on a Saturday at 15:00 but this thread isn’t about Burnley, it’s about us, and there are fucking loads of people filing out there from our section.

I go to a good number and there’s been a noticeable change in the last few, maybe four or so years. Sometimes we are excellent but it’s fewer and further between than it ever has been.
