When we were shit! Every time we played Chelsea Arsenal Liverpool and the scum!
Watching city now.is like a teddy bears picnic compared to when we were shit.

The whole ground would be pissing and moaning and booing back then

I agree! But against the "bigger" teams there was more of an encouragement of the team!

The idea that we should get behind them no matter what, so they will do our bidding, under the perceived threat of playing badly, is sycophantic and sickening.

Football has changed a fair bit since the old days, when most of our players were made up of bargain buys and academy players. These guys need to prove they care (or even can be bothered) before I start going all wide-eyed.

Nice sentiments mate, but your post is the football equivalent at the guy at a teenage party going 'we should all live in peace, war's like really bad and people should just live in peace and the world leader should just take e and have a party'

It isnt going to happen.

Footballs a game watched by large groups of men, many working class, many fuelled by beer and adrenaline. Whether you watch city, villa or accrington Stanley, it has always happened and always will. Not trying to piss on your chips because I know your post is positive and well written.

You also need to remember that a forum is the equivalent of the pub after the game. People will always be critical and opinionated, whether they're right or wrong, even if they sang their heart out in the stands. It's one of the great things about football.

Appreciate this kind of utopia where the fans just simply get behind the team and focus on the positive aspects of our play rather than the negatives will never happen and is unrealistic. I'm also not naive enough to think that there won't ever be critiscism (sometimes in the right circumstances it can be warranted). I also accept that there is negativity amongst all football fans of all persuasions not just City, however, I do believe that the City fans seem to have more of this type of fan than other clubs and its holding us back.

My beef is not that there are negative opinions expressed per se (unfortunately you will never change that within football) it's when the negativity and doom mongering is all across this board when, in our current position, we should be thanking our lucky stars and realising how lucky we are. The amount of negativity on this board when put against where we are defies logic and I do think there is a prevelance of this 'negative' type of fan at City when compared against other clubs.

That said, if everyone, was like me (now that's a scary thought) then this board would be an outpouring of positivity, turning negatives into positives and passing good vibes to the players. The players would run out feeling a million dollars and wanting to perform for the fans.

Trust me, I'm not bigging myself up as some kind of super fan, its just how my mind is wired. I'd rather focus on the good than the bad and I know that this is the best way to help the club achieve what we all want.

I'm sure that some people would claim that this board would be a far less interesting place without the polarised and outlandish opinions often expressed on here but I'd rather have a sh*t messageboard and a successful City.

Talking specifically about whilst at the game, if people on here as City fans accept that being supportive is going to help the team more than being negative then I fail to understand why you wouldn't adopt this mentality at the game. Many people claim they support the team at the match (despite the opinions they may express on here) but its clear when I'm at the game that this isn't the case, people clearly bring all the frustration they express on this board and vent their spleen at the match and it isn't helping.

Right, I'll put my self righteous soapbox away and no doubt continue to get wound up on this board by some of the childish insults thrown at the players we supposedly all support. Like I say, I desperately want to see us succeed and it breaks my heart when I see our own supporters ripping the club and its players to shreds and I had to get my own thoughts on the matter 'out there'.

Never been much of a 'negative' supporter and, whilst the OP makes some valid points, it's all a bit patronising really. Didn't know I'd need lessons on how to support or a handbook written by BlueMooner, after nearly 40 years watching the Blues!

Strange how we managed to get relegated so many times back then with this perfect support getting behind the team. Doesn't this negate the OP's point somewhat?

So having a moan at a player will improve his distribution of the ball?

"Oh a better find Tevez with this ball or the fans will moan at me"!

If it improves a player why haven't we won everything that's going?! The amount of moaning and groaning at our club for the last 30 years?!

You're contradicting yourself.

Just because I disagree with the OP doesn't mean I think the exact opposite is true. Very simplistic.

Try a bit of encouragement after a bad pass! You'll be surprised how much this will work! Rather than moaning at it!

Where can I experience an example of this sycophantic utopia you speak of? Sounds sickening.

Do you actually want the team to do well ? How exactly is berating your own player (calling him sh*t for example) going to help ?

Assuming the answer to the 1st question is yes then please explain the answer to the 2nd question.

I like to think I'm open minded and would love to hear how your approach would help the team to do better.
