city fanzines....

I've been flicking through Worthy's book last few days. Some interesting bits in there.

I read all the fanzines. I used to love a day out at the game, then getting home, having a spliff and devouring the fanzines.

Had a few articles published in KOTK myself.

But if pushed my favourite was CTIC.

Who remembers "Main Stand View"?

I remember having a few copies of MSV but i can't remember the content as the alzheimers is kicking in! Another a4 sized one wasn't it?

Does anyone remember getting the 'quirky' free gifts in CTIC? The elastic band and paper clip with instructions of how to put a smile on your face and my personal favourite "The Straw" To clutch at in whichever circumstances you saw fit.

Though i'm led to believe the editor nicked the vast majority of the love hearts when they were supposed to have been given away...

Jumping on top of the sellers whilst pissed was also another hobby that a few of us enjoyed and taking pictures of rival editors pissed out of their head and losing all manner of hand/eye/leg co-ordination which made them look as if they suffered from motor-neurone disease!

Still got my free "Hate Football Love City" badge and t-shirt. I don't think they were meant to be free actually now I come to think of it.

I still think a CTIC one off special shouldn't be ruled out. I've got unfinished business - there was one stage where Sibierski on the left of midfield was doing my head in so much that I suggested, in print, that Stephen Jordan should have a go there instead.

With hindsight, that was complete bollocks on my part and I need to put things straight. I seek 'closure' *retch*

Jesus. Sibierski on the left side of midfield.

In those days you were allowed to criticise the manager without being burnt at the stake.

Not on here matey. Rome wasn't built in a day.You might as well fuck off to Old Trafford. Bet you are supporting fulham on Sunday, etc etc etc

Who remembers a certain fanzine editor interviewed in the Times?

Was it something like "the lugubrious expression and doleful eyes of a soldier after too long in the world war one trenches"?

;-)

Nowt to do with City, that's just what happens when you have one of 1_barry_conlon's 'special' cigarettes. I've worn that expression a few times.

I remember it. Worthy but often a bit dull, but that's been my Internet football forum posting style since the mid-nineties so nowt wrong with that! ;)

I remember someone in one of the fanzies wrote a history/overview of the City fanzine scene and wrote that MSV tried to 'out-sensible the competition', which was pretty well on the money.

Wasn't there a chapter on the City Til I Cry fella in Mark Hodkinson's Blue Moon book and Times weekly column about our season in the third flight?
Coincidentally, I found an old Chips And Gravy from that dark period the other day while I was cleaning out the loft. I think the cover says "What Is Ian Bishop?" with a picture of him on the front.
Jesus, we're in fucking dreamland now compared to the near-suicidal stuff in there . . .
