city fanzines....

I used to help out now and again at away games. I knew Mike from years ago as he was brought up in the road running parallel to Maine Rd. Knew Pat and Les from the Throstles in OT. Used to see them for a drink most games along with their mum. Her parties at new year were legendary!!!
Got threw out of Walsall with Pat for celebrating in their terrace behind the goal with Pat and a few other blues when The Goat scored 99/00 season sending us top......
Also, was with that trio outside the Springbok Pub/Off Licence @ Loftus Road mid 90's trying to get the K I N K Y song going....... 'There was a man from Dynamo Kinkladze was his name...o.... Franny Lee said sign him up......'
It did take off eventually!

Hey Carl, Walsall was a laugh, mate!!! Still got that size 10 boot imprint on my arse!!!!

-- Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:58 pm --

Chips 'n Gravy ceased publishing in the 2006/07 season. The problem was mainly due to not having enough bodies to stand about selling it. I was able to produce material (thanks to many contributors), but at the end of the day myself and one or two others stood by the ground just couldn't physically sell enough copies between us to make it viable.

It was great fun doing it though. And make quite a few new friends thanks to it. And thanks to all who enjoyed it.

It'd be good to see a relaunch of Chips 'n' Gravy....... When it was at its full pelt we weren't in the same world as what we are now.... Is Mike contributing to any other Fanzine's at the moment does anyone know? Seen Les and Pat last season at Wolves but not seen them for a while since leaving Manchester.

Not convinced they couldn't sell enough between them; they had a few while there were only usually two of us!

Anyway, I see Pat and Les most weeks; Pat maybe on here. I think Mike's moved abroad, although I can't remember where.

Noel, Mike is married and living in Valencia these days. He's doing sports journalism over there and loving it. He also pens the odd article for the official matchday programme now and again, too. He gets back over here now and again.

Hey Pat, hope you're doing well mate.
Hope the family is well too. Do you not think a 'One-Off' Chip's n Gravy will get some humour back amongst blues? With the amount of stories that get made up on this site alone, you'd have no end of stuff to go at!
Random question but did Mike ever do the story about shitting himself at Burnley when we won 6-0? Not being scared but actually blocking the cistern with his lucky soiled boxer shorts? That was another funny night, your kid getting chased down that road with his fanzine bag over his shoulder.... Didn't the guy have a knife or broken bottle of something? He wouldn't drop that bag though......

One remembers the fanzine era fondly, especially the fact that they all became very competitive with each other after a few years. I remember sitting in The Nelly in Didsbury every night with one editor who bullied me into not starting my own as he knew it would have put his out of business. He and his crew set out to destroy my dreams and ruined my chances of ever owning that Jag I had set my heart on owning.

Only joking Noel, will have to meet up soon for a pint. Do you still have your famous Christmas party in town?

the best fanzine despite that gimp called noel or something he made have had something to do with it may just have been a freeloader of a seller for all I know

city til I cry :

very funny and always bought it

fightback:

had some very very good contributers

kotk :

would never buy it because that prick dave wallace became a self proclaimed spokesman for all city fans or so he thought,
the media had his number they would phone him up he would spout a load of tripe that was his opinion and the press would then run with the line that is what all city fans thought.
there was time when I nearly lost it with wallace but didn't have the heart to spark out an old looser
did ask him once at that preseason at preston what was the official view of city fans for the forthcoming season ?

spineless cvnt that he was just tried to laugh it off so I told him that if he shot his mouth off again I would be speaking to him and as I was in a ten season spell that saw me miss only three games he also knew he would be seeeing me

he did seem to give less opinions after that though

Have I got this correct, help me out

BTH is Noel, denim jacket who used to drink in Didbsury, usually the Nelson with Rosie.

Its been a long time since the good old days.

I remember being slightly worse for wear at Chesterfield in 99 & was accused of being a spy for Bert Trautmans Helmet because I threw a pork pie at a rival fanzine editor . Ah the good
old days of paranoia & espionage , I miss those days .

That's because you were from the military wing of 'BTH'

Though you did kiss and make up with Mr Wallace i believe in the rear of the Kippax? :)

Luckilly i was in North Africa at the time and surprisingly it had nothing to do with me....on that occasion!

That's very big of you, congratulations...

So on the one hand we've got an old guy who answers questions to the media about football, and on the other we've got a guy wanting to spark him out because of it

Ask yourself who the real loser is

A loser is someone who can't spell loser correctly. I know Dave and he pisses himself laughing at pricks like you.

If you didn't like his viewpoint, why not write an article disputing his views, and I'm sure Dave would have printed it as well.

The threats against the fanzines may be one of the reasons why we've only got one left now...
