With the signing of Gvardiol, following that of Haaland last summer and Grealish previously, are we now seeing City enter into a Galactico style era, self funded by the sales of youngsters from the academy ? Like Pep moving our tactics onto another level, it seems the likes of Tixi & Omar have elevated our transfer dealings to a different planet, combining the best strategies to facilitate the signing of the best players

The only similarity that Grealish and Gvardiol have with Galacticos is that they all start with ‘G’.

Grealish had played more games in the Championship than he had in the Premier League when we signed him and he’d never been higher than the bottom half in the Prem. That is not a Galactico. Gvardiol is a young up-and-coming player who’s only played 140 professional games in his short career so far for Zagreb and Leipzig. That is not a Galactico.

I wouldn’t even call Haaland a Galactico signing. He’d scored a fair few goals in his short career up to the point when we signed him but he was also just a young up-and-coming player who’d never won a thing.

Galacticos are top players from top clubs in their prime years, big names bought in the hope they gel and raise the commercial side of the club. It’s pretty much the complete opposite of what we do at City.

In a six year period when they were supposedly building the greatest side ever in football and inflating the transfer market and wages beyond anything seen before in a bigger jump from anything seen before (when you consider football inflation), that was an extremely disappointing return.

PSG with Messi et al was the very definition of the term galacticos. Very little though put into the whole just an assumption that the combination of an array of talent would result in a juggernaut.
On the contrary we recruit top quality with a view to creating a group which is formidable. The approach is given added potency because the ring master, a bald fraud chancing his arm, is able to amplify the power.

Messi Neymar and Mbappe were the epitome of Prima Donna Galacticos who just strolled around the pitch and expected everyone else in the team to do all the running.
