City Galactico era

On reflection the team that fielded against Wolves in the 1974 League Cup Final and lost was in many respects a galatico side.Bell, Lee, Summerbee, Law and Marsh. Your looking at half a billion in todays money for that lot. They were well beaten by a workman like Wolves 11 which kind of proves a point.
Too true.

We sign good, young players who are of good character.

Thor was known when we signed him,but it's his performances, goals, personality and appearance that have elevated his profile.

He's a 100% professional....not a shallow thingymibob !!

The galácticos failed (the first iteration is always what comes to mind). We’ve already surpassed them. And we’ve done it by being the opposite of them.

I said the same thing we are now signing the best players in the world and stopping them from going to Spain's Big 2,
the long-term plans are clear when you see players like Josko Gvardiol coming to City we still want more and more

Not exactly well beaten. Wolves keeper Gary Pierce had the game of his life. Our foward line was known as "The Famous Five"

The galacticos won 2 league titles and a CL over 3 years they weren’t a failure at all. Not to mention they created an off pitch legend at Real that still has the best players in the world fawning over them now. Bellingham is at Real now and not in our team because of the legacy of the galactico era. Madrid are the only European club in the world who can keep up with the Premier League off the pitch and it’s largely due to the foundations laid in Perez’s first presidency and the galactico era.

The fact people seem to think the galacticos failed perhaps explains the general tone of this thread, where people are tripping over themselves to explain how the worlds most expensive defender (in € at least) is not a galactico signing.

I respectfully disagree.

Zidane won one la liga and one ucl. Beckham won one league title and no champions leagues. if you think that people think anything other than beckham or zidane when talking galacticos then ok. They were attracting players like Laudrup and Seedorf in the 90s so it's not like they reappeared from nowhere in the 2000s.

If you want to argue their influence on players nowadays I would say that only the 2nd "galactico" era of ronaldo, bale etc influenced Bellingham (who would have been 4 years old when Beckham LEFT Madrid and wee baby when Zidane retired). This is all supposition of course, but a fun argument non the less.

As for Gvardiol, isn't the fact that the original galacticos bought like one decent defender a pretty decent reason to argue that this is not your "typical galactico" signing?
