City matchday presenters sacked over podcast (P6)

The idea that Chinese people are offended by Chinese stereotypes because you haven't met any who have is even more absurd.
Ok fine, since you really want me to say it. Yes, I have Asian friends also... it's difficult to go to school, work, and live in New York City without accumulating friends of different races. And yes, they are offended by Asian stereotypes. I wouldn't dream of saying any of these things in front of them. I didn't think it was relevant to bring up because my two friends don't represent a billion people but since you really need to hear it for some reason, there you go.

Didn't you know? He speaks for over 1.3 billion people.

Ah right. When I say "Chinese people aren't offended by X" then I'm speaking for 1.3billion people but when you say "Chinese people are offended by X" then you're just putting forth an honest opinion.

I see how it works.

Allo Allo, was that racist? Lots of stereotyping going on with accents in that show.

These lads were a bit stupid, and should of been given a warning. They were not being racist in my opinion.

So from the gist of this thread some find it offensive and some don’t. Some know chinese people who don’t think it’s offensive and some know chinese people who do.
Well that’s cleared it up then.

I have about >100 family members who are Chinese including my brother. Not sons and daughters of immigrants, people born and raised in China. I visit China on a regular basis and stay with Chinese family over there. My step Mum is Chinese. I (extremely badly) speak a dialect of Chinese. I watch Chinese news and TV (and football actually) because that's the channels watched in my house growing up. I can give an honest impression of Chinese cultural attitudes towards stereotype.

I know it's not the same as once meeting two guys in New York but it's what I have

My honest opinion is I am not in a position to judge the emotions of a whole race/nation based on knowing a few of them, just because you don't know someone that would be offended by it does not mean they do not exist.

And my opinion is that cultures are broadly different and that, while you cannot speak for every individual, you can make wide strokes generalisations about them fairly easily if you're educated enough on them.

Are the English a race ?

They're part of a race if that counts? I'm not sure what you're getting at.
