City Matters thread

As some of you may know, the Premier league have recently launched their Fan Engagement Standard as part of a beefed up approach across the league to fan representation. The brief policy is worth reading and outlines what will be expected of each club: https://resources.premierleague.com.../Fan-Engagement-Standard-March-2023-FINAL.pdf

Pertinently, clubs will be required to publish a Fan Engagement Plan at the start of each season outlining what their fan groups will be covering over the course of the season. At the end of the season, it is my understanding that a progress report will be published independently via the fan group (so City Matters) on progress and their satisfaction with the club. The club will also face scrutiny from an independent commission into the extent of their fan engagement.

In addition, clubs are expected to publish a Terms of Reference for how their fan group will operate. This is something that I have been pushing for City Matters to have since I joined the group. At our meeting with the club last night, we went through a draft version of the ToR and it should hopefully be published soon.

Edit: To add, some of the things that will be contained within the ToR are minimum standards for the publishing of minutes.
Thank you for pushing on this Alex. Hopefully, this can be a chance to reset. Keep it the good work and comms

To whom it may concern,
when the expanded North stand is completed, I hope we can reIease the same amount of new season cards.
Unfortunately if they release new season tickets they will make it a free for all to every member like last years silver card shambles.

Hi Alex, why do the club treat match day members like shit irrespective of number of loyalty points or purchase history? I have spent literally thousands on match day tickets over the last few years yet am treated as if I only became a member yesterday. I cannot join a cup scheme, am never eligible for away tickets, have to scramble with the hoards to buy overpriced seats etc etc

I hope no one minds that I’ve now raised a City flag in my window for the publishing of minutes!! Hooray just flipping hooray at last. I’ve mentioned not finding minutes so often that I don’t even need to type the words any more. My iPhone does it for me!

Just kidding about the flag but definitely cheering for the minutes!

Calling me a cynic but if the Premier League are behind this fans engagement thing you can bet the motive is political or money or both.

I have raised this along with some other members a number of times.

After the Madrid cock up we worked with them over criteria more generally, but a somewhat similar scenario has happened with the Premier League free for all. We have put in for an urgent meeting about match day criteria for the Champions League. I have put forward the idea about joining cup schemes and I will again - if I remember rightly, I think the club were concerned about where members on the schemes would then fall in terms of criteria for knock out stages etc. Me and Mark Todd (the disability representative) are supportive of using a similar points system to away matches for members sales.

I had intended to do some research into match day ticket pricing after the end of the season, but Istanbul then took precedence with the issues supporters faced. I think the match day pricing is utterly ridiculous and will be picking that up sometime soon.

I am not entirely sure why long-standing members have been on the wrong end of so many bad decisions (whether by choice or ignorance), but what I do know is that the club have been utterly unprepared for the rapid influx in new members. The reason for the lack of Madrid criteria, for example, was because the same fixture the year before had not sold out to members straight away and so they replicated it - obviously 21/22 was a very different season to 22/23. Whilst there many have been ticket point criteria in the past for match day sales, at least recently the club have also only ever put restrictions due to security concerns.

The latest minutes have been on the website for a few months and we had agreed internally about the seven days to publish minutes, but it is great to see it codified. I think City Matters can go a long way if the basics are correct - the fact that they haven't for so long is an inditement.

Yes Alex but I’m talking about the months and months before that. As PB will tell you I was a thorn in his side at times I’m sure. It was a hit or miss situation. Maybe this month not next month!

Why I’m celebrating is that now the FA have made it part of the Terms of Reference they have to publish them. :-)
