City Matters thread

I went to Coop Live before the game a few weeks ago. I was talking to this guy from City Matters about why season-ticket holders don’t get a discount on beer in there. He told me it had nothing to do with City, even though I’d literally had an email from City inviting me to go. He didn’t seem bothered at all and was way more interested in handing me a key ring than actually answering my question. Just a weird interaction overall.

Email today states same price in COOP as stadium too.

Don't they normally say it's the same price but without the ST discount?

Either way, it's hardly a deal breaker I wouldn't have thought. The beer in the ground even without discount is cheaper than the vast majority of pubs in town and certainly way cheaper than you'd normally get in any Arena.

We have flexi-gold in the USA, it's PSL. Corporate greed is killing the game everywhere around the world. The other so-called team in Manchester tried to bring this in for their new stadium

Before anyone says it's a different game, it's about hard-working fans just wanting to go to games

How is someone paying £500 to go to 16 games the same as that?

Unfortunately its a role that is meaningless and a box ticking exercise.
The club will do what they want .

I understand the sentiment only too well but someone needs to be on the inside, as sometimes (a) you can make a difference as a group and (b) someone needs to be there to support all the individuals that need help, and can't get it through normal channels.

Can you highlight anything that you feel the group was able to do to make City change their mind on ?
I agree with point B

What's interesting is what you have to go through before a fan vote. At all stages the club can just veto who they think may cause a problem or who will actually stick up for the fans. Can anybody tell me what the current SC rep has doen that had benefitted the fans?

1. Application & review: Following the application closing date, an internal panel, including the City Matters chair, will assess all submissions.
2. Online interviews: Shortlisted candidates, who meet the role criteria, will be invited to participate in an online interview with the panel.
3. Final shortlist & profile publication: After the interviews, a final shortlist will be confirmed. These candidates will create a profile to be published on the Club’s website (mancity.com).

  • We made them change the way they dealt with seat moves when they were moving people out to make way for hospitality areas.
  • We did a lot of good work on ticketing issues, and making it easier to transfer tickets, but that's gone down the toilet now.
  • We finally got them to commit to transparent, published ticket prices rather than their 'how much can we charge for this game' approach.
  • We got them to bring in outside food and beverage offerings which increased revenue enormously.
  • We originally suggested the Flexi-Gold scheme and they finally implemented something close to the version we suggested, rather then their ham-fisted mangling of it.
But a lot of it was immensely frustrating as there are some narrow or even closed minds at the club. Some very sensible suggestions were knocked back without any real justification, or things were imposed as a fait accompli with little or no consultation.

You and Alex were great mate. Not a lot of good was done by the previous ST rep. Frankly, her attitude was piss poor and has damaged faith in CM.

Yeah I was thinking of applying as I've had an Adult Season Ticket, ever since I became an Adult in 1981-82

More importantly, I worked in Market Research for almost 30 years so I've got a good understanding of Seasoncard demographics and how this is critical when considering changes of policy.

The only snag is that the willing volunteer and the control freak can often be the same person and my opinionated mindset can spot these people a mile away.

In other words I would never be considered because I won't always say what they want to hear

You sound perfect for the role, you've got my vote already.

Seriously.

Hope one of our regular sensible posters applies to do this. @Alex - Not City Matters @Prestwich_Blue can you do a second term? ;-)
I could possibly do a second term as over-65 rep but I don't have the time available these days that I had in 2018 and I while it was an interesting (and sometimes enjoyable) 4 years, I wouldn't want to go back.

When I originally applied I just assumed I wouldn't get shortlisted as I'd been in very public and direct conflict with the club in the Wardle/Pearce era due to my involvement in setting up a Supporters Trust, then being very active in the pre-CM Points of Blue group. But they did shortlist me and I was elected.

I assume the people who seemed to know my role better than I did, and thought they could've done better than the shit job they said I did, will all be applying.
